Hesitation (Star Wars)

Well, I started coloring this one yesterday and ended yesterday. About midway through the coloring process I noticed that my choice of colors (which were purely coincidental) starting looking like the color motiffs that make up the character Mara Jade. A coincidence, but a happy one. Also, you'll notice (though it's obscured) the Imperial symbol as the background.

I thought that the color of it went well with the other colors and the design worked for this picture. I'm not sure however if I intend to keep this character as a rogue Jedi, or a Sith. I'm leaning more towards her being a Sith, but given future characters (some of whom will definitely be Jedi), she may become neutral or even allign herself with the Jedi. We'll have to wait and see.

Basically she's being hesitant to deliver a death blow to an enemy she's bested. As a Sith, to hesitate is very telling of her character. Why does she hestitate? More to come...

It DOES look remarkably like Mara. It's sometimes interesting what you can produce without even thinking about it. Your description is quite appropriate. Bang-up job! :happy:

Oh, I think about what I'm drawing, and I know in advance what I want to be put on paper, in this case it was the coloring that took it's own direction. I already knew I wanted her to have a purple lightsaber. Her hair was originally black, but I needed something more vibrant than that, but something that could still imply she's a dark character, so red worked a bit better.

For this character I need a counterpart, and I already know what I want her to look like. I'm not sure with this character however if I want her to have a Master or be the Apprentice. I think it would work better if she was an underling at first, sort of how Vader is to Palpatine. You can do more with a character who is free to go on missions and such, whereas a Palpatine-esque character usually hangs around doing what they do to maintain their power.

I've also thought of making her a stand alone character who has no master or apprentice and that it's she who runs the show.

I guess what it boils down to is if she's the lead antagonist or not.

I hope I don't get in trouble for bringing up such an old topic, but this one I definitely wanted to say something about.
I really like this picture. I can see the comparison to Mara Jade, which is inadvertantly shown here, and yet the character stands as her own as well. I think that if she is a Sith, then she hasn't been one for very long, since most Sith use a red lightsaber, and she still has her purple one. The outfit is interesting as well, with the black with gold decoration adding a bit of contrast. To me, the face is what captures my attention first and foremost. You do a great job of conveying the hesitation she feels. It shows from the curve of her mouth to the look in her emerald eyes. All in all, a really nice representation.
I've got to ask, do you have a name for this character or anything like that?

You've gotta be kidding me. That's a crappy picture? Ok, if that's you drawing crappy, your good pictures must really be something.
I'm curious though. Would she have been during the original trilogy, the prequel era, the post ROTJ era, or maybe before the prequels, like around the time of the Sith War and KOTOR and stuff?

By my current standards for myself it is. The colors are bland and the lineart isn't that good. And thats not all. Nowadays characters have rich, multi-textured skin tones and better overall designs. Although thats mostly for my original stuff, not fanart and the like.

She would have been a part of the expanded universe, sometime during after the events of Dark Empire and Empire Rising.

I could see that. The DE era did have a ton of Dark Jedi, or at least people who could wield a lightsaber. She could have been one of Xecr Nist's people or something.

I came to realize that I was putting too much effort into something thats not completely my own creation. Because its all based on Star Wars, that did limit me early on.

With the characters and story I'm working on now, its completely me, and not George Lucas or someone else.
