Inspired by JimBoy's 25 biggest flops thread, what movies got landed with horrible reputations, but truly didn't deserve them?
There are two for me.
Waterworld is a big one. Honestly, what's not to like? It was a decent, enjoyable and rewatchable action movie, and the premise was pretty original, you have to admit. Sure, it grossed a loss, but I never take budgets into account when I watch movies. I usually judge them based on their rewatchability.
Biggest of the big though is the live action Street Fighter movie starring Jean Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia (Gomez Addams) as Guile and General M Bison respectively. It's a goofy, colourful, action-packed movie about the good guys in various forms trying to bring down Bison's plans for world domination. It's simple. Every single character from Street Fighter II to Super Street Fighter II Turbo gets a cameo. There's a lot of funny one-liners and decent comedy moments, and the film is styled so that you feel like you're watching the game in comic-book form. It's decent, different, and an affectionate adaptation of the game that doesn't take itself too seriously, unlike many major game adaptations that have flopped.
