This is a question that is Ok here from time to time. It directly relates to this forum 🙂

Before you can post a picture you need to be able to put it someplace on the web that allows you to link to it. The big problem with this is that all of the free hosts that once were out there that allowed this are gone. That's why we see so few new clips and pics posted on the TMF.

So what to do? Well with your internet account you probably got some free web space to use as you see fit. (for example AOL offers several megs and does Earthlink) You can up load you images to those places note the url of where you put the pic and then link it from here in a post using the vB code's To learn how to use them, just click on 'help' in the little box labled vB Code" to the upper left of the area where you type your posts into.

If you need more help just ask.

good lord

that sounds very complicated.

what about the ones you don't have to click on anything to see? For example the recent feather pictures posted are just there when you look at the thread.... is that done the same way?

thanks

Yes, those are done exactly as above.

It's not as bad as it sounds.

1) find place to put image and up load it. Not that hard, almost every internet provider has a simple how to for how to use your personal web space.

2) post it by using the img tag: it would look like this {img}url of where you put the image{/img} only you would use the square '[' brackets rather then the curly '{' ones. I use them so the computer doesn't thinlk I'm trying to post an image 🙂

Good subject for a post slappy!

I would like to see an "Idiots guide to posting" for dimwits like me who are as computer litterate as a small soap dish. I have loads of stuff i would like to share going back to the late seventies.

it may be a good idea to have another forum dedicated to instructions on how to post and how to post clips and how to vote and how to ... well do everything - you could call it "how to..."!!! 🙂

similar to the rules and announcements one that was put up a while ago...

what do ppl think of this then? Myriads?

Basically what I wrote three posts above is about as simple as it gets.

I'll try to expand some more.

Before you can post an image on the forum the image needs to be placed somewhere on the web, so the forum can find it when a users clicks on the thread. You can't just leave it on your computer because the forum has no way to find things on your system, and odds are your computer is not linked to the web at all times.

So the first thing to do is put the image into some webspace that you can create links to. When I say 'create links to' I mean that the people who own the computer server which you have placed the image on, allow another computer to ask to see the image. Most online webspaces don't allow this anymore. It's why there are so few images here on the forum. People don't know where to put images.

Uploading an image to personal webspace is usually done with a ftp program. ftp stands for file transfer protocal. It's a special program that is designed for the special purpose of moving files from your computer to another machine.

You may have to find one and download it. But many of the internet service providers who give their subscribers free webspace have built in ftp programs to move things for you. You'll need to consult your internet providers help page to see how this works for you specifically. The method varies from provider to provider.

Once the image is uploaded to the space you need to note it's url
a url has several parts.

this is a common way they look

http://www.domainname.com/yourspace/pic1.jpg

http:// <----this part tells the compter that the location is using the internet hypertext protocal

www. <----this part tells the computer that the image is on the world wide web.

domainname.com <---- this is the name of where that the image is specifically on the web. It's like a street name.

/yourspace <----- this part is the area of the server that is yours, it's like your house number

/pic1.jpg <---- this is the name and type that you saved the image under. It's like the exact location of something in you house

Now that you have noted where your picture is, you can come here and start a new thread.

In the thread to make the image appear you would type:

{img}http://www.domainname.com/yourspace/pic1.jpg{/img}

Only you would use square brackets'[' rather then the curly ones '{'

and then if you did it all right the picture will pop up 🙂

Note! the link that I use is totaly fake and goes no place! Don't click on it.
