How hard would it be for you to give up drink or smoking:

I used to do both big time, managed to quit smoking after a hell of a struggle, just a social drinker some times binge, my exhusband was a complete drunk all the time never sober, not easy to give, up for him impossible.

how is it with you.

Yay Hazel! 3 cheers for giving up smoking! That's a hard thing to quit.

OMG! Your ex was a drunk? I hope he didn't do anything horrible to you! If he ever shows up at your door, call 911 right away kay?

Just because someone is a drunkard doesn't mean they're abusive. He could have been a 24/7 chatty drunk.

Never smoked but I wouldn't give up drinking unless my health depended on me doing so.

i could take or leave drinking. not much for smoking cigarettes either.
smoke mad amounts of weed though. only the first couple days is hard, really. had to give up smokin bud before. :shrugs:

I quit drinking around this time last year, and would like to again, as I am in no way shape or form ready for the beach/outdoors with this ugly beer belly. I picked the beer back up during the holidays, and have been quaffing ever since.

I remember trying to smoke a couple of times at the age of 13 and thinking I was the man, all it did was make me start to feel sick and I've never touched ciggies again.

Drinking is something I would struggle to give up, I used to drink to heavily at one time but I've managed to scale it down these days. I do enjoy a pint.

I don't really like cigarettes. They leave a bad taste in my mouth. I haven't started consistently drinking, but once I start, I doubt I'll stop. Probably less because I can't, and more because I simply don't want to.

As far as the negative effects of drinking go...well we're all going to die eventually, aren't we? Might as well do it with a stupid looking grin on your face.

I've never smoked so that is something that is not really a problem for me. I tried that once. It tasted like crap and I never looked back.

Drinking I do whenever I feel like drinking. However, I am not addicted to it. I've never felt like I've needed a drink in a physical or mental sense. Sure, you have a shitty day and you just say screw it, but aside from that it isn't really a need. I haven't had a drink in two weeks. If I were to never take another drink I could probably do that. I don't think that I would want to do that because as long as you don't overdo it drinking can be fine. It is a nice stress reliever.

Obviously if one has a genetic inclination towards alcoholism that is going to be a different story. That could be a life long struggle for someone. I've known people like that, and no, they probably could not stop themselves from drinking without a support system in place.

I think we all have something we'd have a lot of trouble giving up, even if it's not necessarily smoking or drinking. That said, I do give major props to anyone who IS currently trying to quit either of those things; while I haven't experienced either firsthand, I know from friends that it can be really hard to do and keep doing over the years.

Myself, I've never tried a cigarette and don't intend to; something about a burning stick in my mouth just doesn't appeal to me. :lol As for drinking, I'm more of a social drinker than anything; if I happen to be out with a group of people who order alcoholic beverages, chances are higher that I might actually order something alcoholic for myself, though it's usually only one I nurse all night. And if there's nothing listed on the menu I like (I'm very picky) then I don't bother, so. *Shrug*

Hazelf, congrats to you on quitting smoking!

Tried smoking when I was a teen (early 70s). Lasted 3 months, choice came...pack of cigs or cup of coffee, hmmm. Never looked back. I drink at least 3-4 pots, yes I said pots of java a day, black.

Drinking...last time was St Patty's Day. We went out to dinner and had 3 pints of stout. Still have two 1.5L of wine from a birthday party for my Dad (90th) and two small bottles of Glenlivet 12yr old single malt scotch. Oh, yea, a bottle of bubbly from New Year's Eve.

I will not give up my caffine!

Never really got addicted to neither drinking or smoking.

I usually drink when i'm out at night with friends but i never had the urge to do so when i'm alone or at meals.

as for smoking i tried about 2 cigarretes in my life and didn't like it
