people who do that turn-around thing were obviously just repressing themselves in the first place and were only reacting in spite of their own feelings of self doubt and tried to push it back by declaring it as weird, esp. in front of others
a clever mixture of defense mechanisms, the most notable one alongside denial is REACTION FORMATION that is your vocabulary term for the night kiddos now go study it that is your homework for tonight yessir
a trend of similar behaviors occur in many fetishists, though i won't claim to be a sociological numbers man and i spit on statistics as it is
and this is what leads them to consider themselves fetishists because the anxiety of repression or generally trying to hide the bad marketting value of what you like by endorsing the weirdness as a positive, etc (bdsm clubs) leads to them focusing so much mental energy on blocking the negative feelings out and it starts to mutate into something else alltogether
hey, i make fun of foot fetishists but have nothing against feet, i just think the whole cheesiness value of a fetish is everpresent
and as my train of thought derails itself i will segue into this fetish topic
you can like what you want. people like what they like, and that's always argued as inherent, and not necessarily to shut people up who say otherwise, the logic is that if you like something, telling you it's weird or it's wrong isn't taking that away
but there is no need to call it a fetish or a culture or community because that's just enforcing the need for some kind of defense against people calling it weird and making fun of you for it
you like feet, great, but ultimately who cares, only people not getting what they want themselves and people with lingering self doubt
and if that isn't good enough, it's a fucking tickling (fetish) forum
