I've been playing a lot of poker lately, and am planning on playing a lot more. So I was thinking of starting a poker discussion forum here, if there's enough interest among you guys. So, what's the level of interest in poker here, can people who would be interested in that sound off?

Obviously the events of Black Friday still loom large over the industry, with that being stated hopefully the industry can recover considering the plethora of good that has been going on over the summer.

Phil Hellmuth won his 12th bracelet and 1st in an event other then No-Limit
Phil Ivey made his return to the World Series of Poker and had an impressive as usual showing

And this came across today, PokerStars had bought out Full Tilt Poker and it looks like folks will get paid.

I just saw something about full tilt today, but I didnt stop to read it, that's really good news.

I've been successfully using Cake Poker, and though I havent tried to get paid yet by them I know people who have successfully gotten money back out.

But pretty soon I'm going to start transitioning to live play at the Casinos in CT, because I'm finding a lot of people consistently saying that online play is severely competetive, and not the best place to start going from amateur to whatever is above amateur but before professional... journeyman maybe 🙂

My brother, who is a better player than me but also not professional level, says there's a pretty soft 2-4 limit table at the Mohegan Sun where I can start getting experience without risking my whole chip stack the way you do when you're trying to learn no limit. I prefer NL because it makes more sense to me, probably from being exposed to it on TV, but I'm coming to grips with the fact that I'm not a strong enough player to make reliably good judgement calls with my whole stack, and I can't afford to learn by getting cleaned out 40 or 50 times. So for now it's off to the Limit tables with me until I raise the level of my game.

When 7-card stud was the most popular version of poker in Atlantic City, I would go there and play that occasionally. I think I have a better short-term memory than most people for which cards, formerly face up, have been folded. But that advantage goes away in Texas Hold'em, where none of your opponents cards are ever face up (until or unless they are in a showdown).

I love to play poker. Texas Hold'em specifically. I used to play quite a bit back in the day but haven't been lucky enough to lately. :-(

My friend Barney has been playing a lot of online poker lately, and has been trying to get me into it, but I have yet to play. I believe the site he goes to is www.123poker.net

I've played video poker in Atlantic City and at Delaware Park, but its been a bit. So far at Acqueduct I have yet to play it, but I think I'm going to try.

I'd love to play some no shit poker in Atlantic City or Las Vegas but I can't fathom blowing that kind of money pointlessly.

Every time I go to a casino, I get caught up in the thrill of playing, but then 10 minutes later, once I've lost all the money I came to bet with, I get really sad, bored and want to empty out all of the bank accounts just so I can play some more! LOL I'm someone casinos love!

I wish I could get National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation lucky!

I play video poker to... Usually, 'Deuces Wild'(four deuces pay $250), or 'Roaring Fours'(four-of-kind pays a $100). I have only hit the Royal Flush once for a $1000.

Ive hit a royal flush three times. pretty good considering my luck sucks.

I love playing poker mainly hold'em or omaha, i used to play a lot more online when full tilt was up, since it went down i havent been able to find an online site i enjoy as much

You will make "mad," look cute. 🙂

I'm for serious, yo. Almost every person I know, aside from my deaf great-uncle, enjoys listening or playing music. I really only know 1 person that plays poker on the regular. Not saying there isn't a huge amount of people on here that would loooooove talking about poker, but seems like it'd be a stretch.

While we're at it, let's add a gardening forum, an arts and crafts forum, and a cooking forum.

Also, what is the difference between "silly stuff" and "humor"?

There really just isn't a whole lot of conversation that can be had when talking about poker.

Been playing in casinos in Hold'em tournaments and cash games since I was 18 (I went to Turning Stone in New York where 18 is the minimum age), and been playing home games for years. Haven't played much lately though.

I used to play in a Texas Hold'em league. I also enjoy online poker.

I play a simple 5 card stud. When I play with my friends, its dealer's choice, and I wind up learning 10 different styles of poker.

I play 100 & 200 NL at Pokerstars and before that I played at 888. I can't believe someone said you can't really chat much about poker, there is so much theory and maths involved hence the reason loads of books and forums exist.

That's what I was hoping there would be an interest in, getting some in depth conversations about practical play going. Maybe for now just an ongoing thread.

Used to play 5 card draw, but have since gotten sucked into the whole Texas Hold 'Em craze. I've made the Final Table in a few online tournaments and usually leave Vegas with a bit more than I came in with. Other than that, I just play with my dad and uncles. Tomorrow, we will be playing for the first time in 4 months.

I'm on an absolute tear at the moment winning just over 60bb per 100 (Some of that will be variance) so going to move up to 500NL shortly.

That's fantastic success, congratulations 🙂

I'll be really interested to hear how it goes at the higher limit, the competition must be insane at that level.
