How have neighborhoods or towns that forum members live in/have lived in.. changed over the years.
For me.. there is one dramatic change of a town I lived in, even though I dont live there anymore.
As I may have mentioned before, I lived in Fort Lee, NJ, just across the George Washington Bridge from NYC, for a total of 14 years. First for four years with my parents in the 1970s, and then for almost ten years, with my mom, from the time our family split up, until she and I moved to Lancaster in 1999.
During the occasions we lived there, even in the 1990s, Fort Lee had a diverse population of people from all backgrounds, including many Italians, Jews, etc, as well as quite a number of Asians, African American, and Hispanics.
When I read the current Wikipedia article about Fort Lee's current population, it states that about 40% of the population is Asian, and that much of the town has become essentially a "Koreatown", with one of the largest populations of Koreans outside of Korea. Additionally, the article stated that many of the signs in Fort Lee are in Korean, and that the population of Koreans continues to grow.
This is a dramatic change from just.. 15 years ago. While I always knew when I lived there that Fort Lee had quite a few Korean people, I know for a fact that 40% of the population wasn't Korean, and the town looked nothing like the "Koreatown", that the Wikipedia describes today. My friend Adam, who lives in NJ, told me that a supermarket that my mom and I used to shop in, in the 1990s, is now a Korean Grocery.
A few of the restaurants we used to eat in are still there. (A diner, a steak restaurant), but besides that, much of the town is occupied by Korean restaurants.
So, that's the topic. How have towns you live in/have lived in, changed?
