CD Burner programs

Gilmour-

If these are mpegs, wmvs, avis, you can actually use Windows Media Player to burn them to a CD II believe you can anyway). There is a utility built into Media Player that will allow you to do just that. At least with Media Player for XP you can (I believe it is either version 9 or 10 when it first came into existence).

Two of the other programs that I've used to burn files to a CD are Roxio's Easy CD Creator and NTI's CD-Maker. I personally prefer Easy CD Creator as you can create a CD with which you can drag and drop files to it just as easily as you can to a floppy or hard drive. This option is called Direct CD, and it formats your CD to do this. When you do this, I would recommend using a CD-RW disc (a rewritable CD for those of you who don't understand the term).

Hope this helps you.

thanks for the help..yes they are mpegs, wmvs and avis

i use windows xp

and you email me to let me know where i can get the program that you say...also after i get it let me know how to use it...like i said i'm a REAL novice at this

i do appreciate it

The best place I know of where to get the programs is CompUSA. I'm not sure where in the state of New York you live, but if you go to www.compusa.com you should be able to find the location of the nearest store to you.

If I were you, I would go with the Roxio Easy CD Creator, as that is the simplest one to use, also since it has the Direct CD option that I told you about in the earlier post.

great.......can i download it online or do i have to go to compusa??

well, if u don't want to buy a program, just download nero, and use the free trial.
-> example download link: click me

If the link shouldn't work (it definetly should =P ) just use google.

Sorry gilmour, but you have to buy it at CompUSA. I don't think it is downloadable from their website, or from CompUSAs either.

I have always had very good results using the built-in CD creation wizard in Windows XP. The software is licensed from Roxio, btw 🙂

All you need to do is insert a blank, recordable CD into the drive, then click "take no action" when the box pops up. Select the folders or files you want to copy, then click "copy this folder" (on the left side of the window, under "File and folder tasks.") Select the CD drive (usually D: ) and follow the instructions provided by the wizard.

As to type of disk, you need a blank data (not "music") CD-R or CD-RW (rewriteable) with a maximum speed rating (the number before the X) at least as high as the write speed of your drive. As a practical matter, any name-brand CD-R should be sufficient, but you need to be more careful when matching a CD-RW because some will only work in "high speed" drives.

I hope this is of help,

The rule of thumb is that if your CD reader drive is a multiread drive and is at least 24X, you should be able to read CD-RW disks in them.. In fact, I am looking at a CD-RW disc right now, and the specs with this disc state that very fact.

Most drives will read CD-RW's, but when creating CD-RW's, one has to be careful to match the speed of the blank disc to the drive's "rewrite" speed (usually the middle number, as in 24x8x24x). The main thing to check is, if the CD-RW disc says "for use in high speed drives only," you should make sure that the "high speed" logo appears on the drive bay itself 🙂

LOL Ive got 2 hard drives, both of which are partitioned into tiny bits. My CD writer is Drive x. 😛
When I initially laid all the parttitions out for my new hard drive I had so many that the CD drives didn't even show up cause they were past drive Z. Apparently that's as high as you can go. 😀 When I take the old hard drive out my CD drives will be N and O.
But on topic...yeah...unless I'm burning CD image files I always use the one built into XP. Just drag the files into the CD-R drive and when you're ready select "write these files to CD". Super simple.
