How to convert movies to make them smaller! HELP!

I need to know how to change a movie to make it a smaller file. (Specifically I need to change something in Quicktime format to something smaller.) If anyone knows how or if there are easy directions here on how to do it could you please post it here? Splitting the file up with hacha or winrar is NOT an option so if anyone could help me I would be very happy. Thanks!

As far as I know (and what I know about Quicktime is limited) the only way to edit a QT file is by purchasing a peice of Apple software. I dont think there is any other program that will edit them and as far as I know there is no freeware that will do it.
I will add to this request by saying that I am STILL searching high and low for an RM converter that actually WORKS. 😛
