I have a friend, who has a neighbor who is a crazy old lady. The lady has sued everyone on her road. (there's only three houses, her, her neighbor and his son.) She has sued them for years for some land thing about a ditch and property line, I don't even know. She has lost every time, this is why I know she is a crazy old lady and she's sue happy. This is not just my friend saying this. Well, obviously, her family needs a lawyer every time this dumb bitch sues everyone. This has cost my friend's family, and the two neighbors, thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars in legal bills. Her mom just got the lawyer bill in the mail the other day, and it was thousands of dollars. Her mom was mad for the rest of the day, obviously.
Now, there are a lot of smart people on this forum, seeing that you are all ticklers and that means your smarter than the average person (I stand by my theory!) What the heck can they do?
Now, these three people are somewhat well off, I mean, they can afford the bills, but they are absolutely destroying their life savings at an alarming rate. If she keeps sueing, it may wipe out the savings of the whole neighborhood.
This crazy lady can do this because we're in Louisiana, and you can always find a lawyer who will take a case if you have money, and there's always a judge who will hear it. That's life.
Now, I'm poor. I bus tables. I have a mere hundred or so dollars saved up. If anyone sued me, once, and I won, it would wipe me out. I wouldn't even make it to the courtroom with my lawyer to win, because I could pay him about an hours worth of work and them I'd be broke.
I don't understand why there's not constitutional protection for the average citizen who can't afford to fight people like this. If a well off person wants to desroy their neighbor, or anyone else, all they have to do is throw a lawsuit at them, however frivilous, and if it is heard, the legal bills would bankrupt the other person in a short while.
I would appreciate any help or advice. Those people have put up with this for years, and were fed up with it long ago. They can't keep defending themselves in court forever, and will eventually be broke. Their mom is retired, as is the neighbor, and decades of life savings are being wasted at an insane rate.
