...serious question, like really serious, but what is this vote meant to accomplish? I've seen this floating around Facebook and, I just~ am really curious.
 
I helped but.... I really hate being the guy who says this kind of thing but.... the "average" people are clamoring for this to go through so... even if this is stopped in parliment, what's to stop a pissed off lynch mob?
 
To sign a petition to stop the mentioned anti-gay law from passing.

Apparently it's worked before, so perhaps it will work again? I hope so :c
 
Of course it won't stop completely. It will never stop completely. But at least it keeps the government from making it official and legal to kill them.

Or so I'm hoping. >__>
 
Um... you're saying regular people voting on a website have anything to do with a vote that's being passed in a country that has nothing to do with us? How does this keep it from being legal? I'm just trying to find out the legitimacy of this~ I mean nobody here wants this to actually happen, but does this website actually have power... or is it just an attempt at making the west feel less helpless over things they can't actually control? :/
 
To be honest? Hell if I know.

Maybe it is, or maybe it isn't. It does say "We've helped stop this bill before," so perhaps it is legit. But then again, maybe it is all just a ruse to make us feel less worthless.

*shrug* :\ I really don't know what to say on the matter. Do as you will.
 
Ya know..... while the website says we're signing to support the stop of the bill.... I mean.... how do we know those signatures are REALLY to stop the bill and not support it. I find it curious that the limit seems to be one million, wouldn't they want to collect more then that?
 
Not your fault Zerous. It's not like you could have known. I mean considering there's not much other then "this is what's happening, give us your information" it could just be a way to gather information by appealing to people's sense of human decency. But let's hope it's actually for the cause it claims to be.
 
Well it doesn't demand much. Just an Email and a name. Could be a fake name and you may just delete any email from them you get.

The rest are optional. So there's not much to lose. Except, of course, pride if it turns out this bill does nothing, or worse. D:

And yes, I hold onto the hope that even if the bill does go through, something will try and stop it.
 
Security site URLVoid.com rates the petition site as safe. Using a disposable e-mail address (such as one from mailinator.com) would eliminate the risk of spam, as long as you don't give them your mobile number.
 
Uganda? Somehow I get the feeling that they don't really care about some petition on the internet. That's just my two cents.
 
Well guys...here's the bigger news on Uganda's "Kill The Gays" bill...

...it started right here in good old Washington, USA.

Now, I'm not gonna even waste the muscles in my fingers typing out what these guys are all about, so do yourselves a favor and look up "C Street" and "The Family". I'll make it short...C Street is an ultra-right-wing Christian fundamentalist group known for espousing the most extreme views of "values". They are most recently (in)famous for supporting "Christian American Values" on one hand while paying large sums of money and influence to help cover up the sexual scandals of several Republican congressmen on the other. The Republican party is tied closely to C Street.

The bones of "Kill the Gays" was birthed right here in the US.

I'm a lesbian and PROUD OF IT dammit. Fuck people on their own assholes if they think they should have the right to kill me just because of my sexual preference! Those people are following rules on how to live their lives that were set down by some Hebrew rabbi over 2,000 YEARS AGO! I say let them all live on an Island and then cause a landslide tsunami in their general direction! They're mothers were hamsters and their fathers smelled of elderberries and if they don't go away I shall TAUNT THEM A 2ND TIME!

Seriously, I couldn't have said it better myself...and I'm a fucking activist. You know, you don't even have to be gay to catch heat for involvement these days. As stated, I'm a fairly active gay-rights proponent, and I'm heterosexual. Of course, when I speak out about such things, people who don't know me automatically assume I'm gay. Then they find out I'm not and sometimes I'm even asked why I support it then.

I don't see it simply as "gay rights" alone...I see it as "human rights", which I am very strongly vested in.

Oh I'm not being shy...it's just I can't humanly describe in words alone just how much these people tick me off. God I wish Judaism, Christianity, and Islam never came into being. It's done nothing but hold back human rights and incited people to commit atrocities against their fellow human beings.
