I am surprised nobody has talked about this yet

Aaaand it doesn't seem like this is much of a discussion either. Just a bunch of videos talking about the same event.

That said, the monorails are still trains. Trains wreck from time to time. Considering this is the first fatal incident of only 5 total in the system's near 40-year lifespan, I'd say they're doin' pretty damn good.
 
Yes,but Disney has several emergency shut off points and this just should not have happened.I also find it quite tragic.Maybe nobody else does but I certainly want to know how it happened

Matt Groening has a hang-up about public transportation. Two examples on the Simpsons:
1. A con-man sells Springfield a monorail system, Homer becomes a driver, and wrecks it.
2. Lisa wants to go to the museum, but Bart has done something typical and mom has to take him to the emergency room. Lisa gets lost on a public bus (not as smart as she appears, apparently).

lol,the Simpsons are funny and apparently they have an episode for everything
 
Actually Homer kinda wrecks it by allowing a family of opposums to live inside the trains electical unit....." I call the big one bitey " But he saves the day by stopping the out of control monorail by lassowing I believe a giant steel M from the side of the monorail and using it as an anchor. therefore the disney monorail would have been fine if they had Homer cuz " He's the best mono guy thingy ever "

... technology will always fail from time to time. It's inevitable. Accidents at work involving machines are said to be "96% Human Error, 4% Technical Failure". The man was killed by the 4%. =/

while the hollywood brother got to agree with thought it is true that accidents happen. what the hollywood brother thinks people need to do is to look at how many billions of hollywood brother fans and tickle fans go through disney safely every day! The hollywood brother is sure that this is a isolated incident and that overall the safety of the disney attractions, monorails, and buses are as safe or safer than any other place. now on a hollywood brother serious note if they did have a monroail with homer simpson driving then it would not only put them on the map but it would put them on the map with a catchy song as well!

That's exactly right and that's why I am so shocked it is almost impossible for this to happen with all the safety measures in place.They have emergency shut off switches,a sensor that sends off alarms when the trains get to close and if the pilot goes to fast the train can slow itself down.It is true that these items in place can be over rode with a password or whatever the pilot has but still this is pretty impossible and should have never happened.
 
Of course there are safety switches with fail-safe relays and other things. Passwords are not allowed to override the sensors. Stuff still breaks once in a while: operators must still pay attention. The good safety switches are why this kind of thing is extremely rare compared with traffic accidents.

Wait a minute now!If these sensors have been proven to work we need them for cars then because there are to many speed demons and tailgaters,although some might figure out how to remove or break it,it would still save lives

I don't know if sensors for a vehicle that runs on, and does not deviate from, a specific track, would work on vehicles that can travel wherever they want. Although, there are cars with sensors in the bumpers that help people to park and such. I've heard there are problems with them though.

You could try putting the sensors outside the car then,like along the highway maybe that would work or we could start putting cars on tracks but I don't recommend that solution it's just to much work and to expensive

Putting cars on tracks sounds rather ridiculous. And if pot holes that are big enough to fit humans in can go unfixed in Chicago all year, I doubt the outdoor sensors thing will catch on anytime soon.

Good God are you serious or exaggerating because that big of a pothole as they have learned in New Orleans is seriously dangerous.
 
Because of the winter we've had, potholes that were previously not so bad, got worse and those in poorer areas of the city got ignored. There were pictures of pot holes will whole giant garbage cans fit entirely inside. Not just one, but many. News of peoples' cars getting damaged or even totaled. It was a mess. So, while I'm not sure outdoor sensors would work or not, the fact is, I highly doubt anyone would want to put the work in, at least here.
