i don't understand why

my best friend calls me twice a day to and from her way to work...and sometimes she talks about the tmf..despite the fact i don't care to hear about it..but i indulge her cuz i love her lol..anyway this morning she told me about a story she was reading over there..and she thought it seemed familiar, and as she read further it hit her that it was a story written originally by someone else on the forum..she didn't have time to do anything about it and wanted me to find someone if i could..well i said i'll do it myself..which i did...this person had posted a story that wasn't their own, and didn't acknowledge the fact it was someone else's, in fact a member of the forum also..now when you go to the trouble to create a painstaking plot and detailed descriptions, to have it ripped off by someone else a year or so later is just too much for me to take..so i went in and bumped up the original story and then posted on this other person's story..

you see once i'm a loyal fan or friend i stick by them..and i hadn't been to the tmf in months..not even as a lurker..i just don't have an interest in it..but i did that today..i felt it was the right thing to do..

i wonder why someone takes the trouble and time to post someone else's story instead of writing one of their own..or at least acknowledging the original author's talent by giving him/her credit..

this has happened on other websites...the best friend of mine that told me about this had her own stories ripped off on a bdsm site..and passed them off as his own, by making subtle changes..

It's great to hear what you did as I also have a few friend that do their own work (artist 😛) and if anyone attempted to take their work as his/her own, I would do make sure that he be shown as the fake he is... in public 😡

Because writing a good story, coming up with it, making the characters and everything else sums up to couple of days of hard work. C/ping it takes... five minutes. That's what I hate and that's something I could never do. Others, lacking writing talent (not that I'm talented, but I don't fit into next category), but wanting quick glory, take up the road of less resistance and more sleaziness.

Mine, too, Bashiku. As in: I have too much pride to rip off another person's work like that. I'd rather write my own, even if they get zero feedback, than steal another's hard work. And, as Duke D. said, it IS hard work coming up with a story concept, deciding who's perspective you're going to write it from, how to finish it, and a host of other questions.

So, yeah. Good on you and your friend for unmasking the thief, Izzy. That's just solid for the community as a whole.

well i'm no snitch..not at all..in fact i hate snitches..or despise them..but this is totally different..in the publishing world it's illegal...and the person who was being ripped off...well his stories take alot of time and effort to write..not just a few days..he goes into historical themes as well...i know..cuz we used to talk...but even if i didn't know him, i would still have done this..if the person had admired the original and wanted to pay homage, by reposting, that would have been great...but acknowledge the author...

I am too proud to say that, but when I decide to rip off someones story I might as well jump from a thirty store building for I would have betrayed the writer inside me. The point in writing is releasing your emotions, thoughts, imagination and frustration into a beautiful composition that would make others happy, sad, sick, or make them laugh to the death. That is it to me at least.

Anyways, back on topic, before I get sued for rip-offs of countless westerns and Yakitate Japan: I applaud Izzy's maneuver, and I'm really proud of her, since I'd really hate if someone copied my work and tried to pass it off as their own (though I'm unsure why would anyone want to pass those lame stories of mine as their own😀 ). I don't write for glory, true, but when I do write something, at least I want people to know that I wrote it... that I stand behind it. Good or bad, my work is my pride.
