Any of you out there with video production experience know how good this system will be at video editing and the various bits and bobs that go with it? The price of this system was about £1,850 including VAT and delivery, so it had better bloody be worth it. :blaugh:

Looks good, BigJim.🙂

I recently had a computer with an Asus motherboard and an AMD Athalon CPU (how come you only got 400 MHz, but the CPU is able to handle 1024 MB of RAM?)

Initially, it was a great computer, and much less expensive than the Intel counterparts...

However, what I didn't know is that Intel is more expensive b/c it has a very high threshold for heat, i.e., my computer burned out in less than two years b/c of the Asus and AMD motherboard and CPU, respectively.

So, don't leave your computer on all the time, BJ, like I did. Other than that, you should have a rocking good time with yer rocking new system.

Do you have any fillies lined up so that you can put them on video?

Lucky bastard. 😛

Cheers.😀

Congrats, Jim!😀 Yeah, for that much it had BETTER be worth it. For US users: That same system would be $3,019.65 here in America. 😱

Sounds like a very nice system Jim. Is a 160GB Drive enough to
hold all your tickling material tho? 😛
Good luck and have fun with it Big Guy.

For 3K you could have bought a Apple G5... best system for video editing and sound work money could buy. But alas, people always get Wintel boxes.

Myriads

The Processor rund at just under 2.2 gigahertz mate. It's the RAM that runs at 400 megahertz. The Pentium 4 is only capable of supporting RAM that runs at 333 megahertz,(my RAM is PC 3200, but the P4 can only use up to PC 2700) so the Athlon has the advantage there. That and the fact that it processes more information per hertz than any Intel chip, is the main reason why I went for it.

Oddly enough, I've just heard that AMD chips get hotter than Inel ones too. I've got a fan the size of one you'd find in a Pratt & Whitney with the new machine, so hopefully it'll be good to use. Of course with Windows XP the scan disk feature doesn't exist as it did with 98, so there's no need to leave it on for long periods of time as it only needs to delete files and defrag. Do you know why that is by any chance? Why does XP not need to run scan disk?

Not ones that are willing to go on video, no. It's not a professional venture, so I won't be selling media, I'll just be using it at private gatherings. I won't be 'paying' the models either as that carries a complicated legal status. Nothing stopping me from giving them a "gift" as a friend though, is there?

The HD might not be, but the fact that it burns CD's and DVD's opens up opportunities of easy storage.

And thanks. 😉

Is that 3K in British pounds, or American dollars? If it's pounds, then I wouldn't have gone for it.
Besides which I know shag-all about using Macs or their O/S's, even if certain models are technically superior. Video editing is also just one of 6 or 7 things I want to do with it, so for once in my life I'm conforming to the masses and using something compatible with all the stuff that's readily available. I'm just not specialist enough really to go for a Mac. (Or knowledgeable enough.)

Yeah, that sounds like the dollar equivalent of eighteen hundred and fifty quid.

It would have been thirty quid more, but the infra-red, super mucking fodern keyboard and mouse only came in white. I wanted everything in black (Hides the dead skin on the keys. 😀) and everything else was. So I asked them give me an inferior model of keyboard and mouse, that cost a bit less.

Cheers mate.

It is! 😀 Eevry component of it is the most expensive money can buy and the most developed, modern and jazzed up. I quite literally couldn't have bought a more effective system without going for something like Myr reccomended.

Indeed.

On Windows 98 you could just select "Maintenance Wizard" and the CPU would run File Clearup, Scandisk and Defragmentation one after the other in quick sucession. On XP (which my father's Celeron laptop has and which I just experimented on with that proceedure you mentioned above) you seem to have to select the three different programs yourself, to make them run. Is there any way I can do the same sort of thing as with 98?

MESH are pretty good, especially at pricing. Shame they're so utterly shit at delivery really. How many companies accept an order for nearly two thousand pounds and then make their customer wait for three weeks before they give him his merchandise?

Yes it was a Logitech keyboard and mouse. I told them to stick it, because they couldn't be bothered stocking more than one colour. With te rest of the system coming in black I was bloody arsed if I was gonna have the keyboard in white, no matter how bloody good it was. Downgrading to a cheaper one that came in black was a small enough price to pay; at least the mouse is still optical.

yeah the three week delivery time sucked :/

i woulda probably tried to get a nice black pc but with all the messing about with mouse and keyboard and such i decided to leave it with the bog standard beige
