I started an online tickle cult?

Yeah, you read the title correctly. All of this "experience" is strictly roleplay (as I've never met any of these people and lost contact with nearly all of them by now), but I figured it would qualify for a true experience. Also, this was 15 years ago, so forgive me for forgetting the specifics of any "tickle attacks." However, feel free to ask me about some of the closer friends that I list later on, as there's probably a reason why they've stuck in my mind for so long (though nothing ever got beyond friendship with any of these people).

I got an ipod touch as a gift for... I believe my 17th birthday (I was late to the party with a lot of things). As I wasn't really the music addict that most people are at that age, and being the disabled kid I didn't really get out more than once a week (church youth group), I proceeded to fill mine up with games and ways to chat with people. The "setting" for this story is a game called Tap Tap Revenge 3, a rip off of guitar hero that would let players chat in between songs (or skip games entirely and chat for hours). I don't remember who my first "target" was, because once it started, things snowballed into chaos real fast.

That said, I've never been shy, and I either did the old poke tactic from back then - or I just straight up asked the question to any girl that entered the chat like a weirdo. I was not the most responsible person online (I'm still not, but better than that lol). Because of this, our eventual age range ended up being 14-22, with most of us being 14-17 (I can think of 3 maybe 4 people older than me). After a few weeks of my shenanigans, we became a pretty tight-knit circle of gamers...that very rarely played the game. There was myself, probably my first online crush in Jade, a guy named Theo, his own crush in Ciera, a girl named Kat (who I later horribly ruined my chances with), a cheerleader named Rachel, a couple of jade's friends in Kira and Eva (the latter of which seemed annoyed by the chaos in hindsight), and lastly a girl named Gabrielle, who I'm pretty sure just had a cute avatar because we didn't keep in contact outside of the game.

Now I believe this "cult" lasted around 18 months in total, and the cast of characters had to have at least tripled in size with friends coming and going in that time, but that was the original group of friends that talked daily. Now then, we never really set rules for any of our shenanigans, because who was going to follow them in an all out war? However, an unwritten rule we had was for the first person online to just play games and wait to get ambushed by the next friend to get on. Surprisingly, nobody really had to be told to not do superhuman/overpowered nonsense, because we'd save/betray each other often enough that it never really got dull.

As time went on, our group grew, and the rise of other ways to chat meant that we had multiple ways to find each other (and sneakily check who was online). However, as we slowly migrated over to more chat centralized apps, tap tap revenge started to die out. I heard rumors years later of a tragedy happening due to the app (if true, it would have been fairly close to where I lived, but I never found anything when researching it). Regardless, first they removed public chats from the game lobbies, which I wouldn't be totally surprised if I was told that we caused that, then they removed chat rooms all together, and finally they removed private messages once the tragedy rumors started going around. This was sad, but fine for the most part. I did meet a couple people from the later iterations of the group after the game lobbies were removed, but I was the only one of the originals that stuck around.

In the latter stages of the app I met LeAnn, Liz, Lucas, a future online girlfriend in Brittany, and a trio of girls that likely spelled the end of the group (there were a lot of mental health issues in the second half of things, we were the outcast kids at the end of the day and I hope they're all okay). I also dm'd a few girls in that time but they never joined or chatted with anyone other than me.

Anyway, before I jump the gun, I will say that one of the apps we migrated to was textplus (which has also removed chat rooms later on, I don't know if we caused that one, but I wasn't the first person to create a tickling themed chat lobby on there). Due to that, we actually had a small number of us (I want to say 4 out of about 25) that came from textplus. The three I remember being from there are Aly, another future girlfriend in Isabella, and a guy named Tyler who I'm fairly certain is on here (or was at one point) because he had a couple of amateur tickle videos on YouTube. Lucas did also invite his cousin, and she was pretty cool, though she did later start the drama that kicked off everybody's mental health going haywire.

That said, my senior year of high school and the end of my junior year was filled with a year and a half of tickling chaos. Very little of it was real, but you could still say that all of it was true, and it's strangely one of my favorite things to look back on. I'm willing to share any stories that I remember, and if we run out of "cult" stories, I probably only included half of the girls that I met by doing this in the actual group (because of not being on daily) and I'm sure I'll tell more stories in the new year
