I dont know if this is true for other parts of the country, but,.

In New York City..

The summer of 2016, seems to be the hottest summer on record.

One 90 degree day after the next with no letup.

Sunday's forecast for NYC is supposed to be a blazing.. 96.

Other summers would have stretches of 90 plus degree days for.. a week or two, but..

This summer has been seemingly for weeks on end.

The long range forecast said there may be some letup, finally, next week.

It would be about time, it's the third week in August already.

Thoughts on this?

We haven't hit 120 yet in AZ as far as I know, so it's been OK for me lol

Nope, not even close. In 2011 we had 96 days of 100 or above. We are nowhere close to that this summer.

No. I don't think this has been the hottest summer in memory. We have had a few hots days recently but July wasn't bad at all.

Down here, been in the 90's, nothing unusual for this time of year. Gotta wait for them smart folk to tell us it's been hotter overall than....somethin' or anudder.

Mitchell...you're still here in New York, right? This has actually been a pretty mild summer, this week notwithstanding. July 4th was breezy! The mornings have been beautiful, low humidity and breezy.

Now the SPRING, on the other hand, was BRUTAL. We had no spring, as usual! It was humid and hot and completely unseasonable. We get spring and autumn now once every two or three years up here! But the summers are often mild, or rainy, now.

Winter too! Most of the winter was warm. Remember when it plunged down to 10 below zero (which it never does here) and then sprung up to 68 two days later? That was Feb, or March.

So we've had a very hot year so far up in NY....but the summer itself has been pretty muted through July.

2013 had more 90 degree days than this year so far, but Im sure it will be surpassed.

Yes, Internet, I've lived in NYC since June 2012.

It just seems like,,this summer has been extremely hot.

It's supposed to cool down into the low 80s over the weekend, and next week.

That will feel great,.

I cant wait for summer to end ,.

Now watch me post about how brutal it is, during the winter when its 10 degrees with a foot of snow lol.

Well if you've only lived here since 2012, then I guess you might not know. It can get alot worse than this, believe me. Like I said, it was relentlessly hot and muggy all spring so......you might be combining those uncomfortable days with summertime proper. July itself was amazingly breezy, the mornings were gorgeous, I'd get all my errands done in the morning and stay in the rest of the day.

And as far as getting 10 feet of snow, we've had some spectacular over the top winters over the last few years......but even more winters where it only snows once or twice and it keeps dipping up to the 60s throughout so maybe you'll get lucky. A few Christmases ago I was standing outside in a t-shirt.

I hate the summer (up here) as well.....I'm not happy unless it's 68 degrees or under!

EDIT: 7:00 AM, case in point, i was just outside, it's beautiful right now, Mitchell! It's going to get horrible later, but there's relief right now. Go outside right now, get your errands done! Beat the heat!

Actually, I guess you dont know me then.

I was born in NYC, and lived in the area from 1970 to 1999.

In 1999 I moved to Lancaster, PA for 13 years.

After the death of my mother in 2012, I moved back to NYC, to be near family and friends. .

I remember the blizzard of 1996 like it was yesterday.

And of course.,

Who could forget the great Blizzard of 2016 on my birthday this year, January 23rd, with two and a half feet of snow.

Of course I don't know you. How and why would I know all of that? You said you lived since here since 2013, I took that at face value. Guess I have to brush up on my Mitchell trivia! Ok, well in that case, compare this summer to the heatwave of 1977, which I'm sure you remember so well. It's been pretty mild comparatively.

Regarding the "Great blizzard of 2016", yeah, and that was the only snow we got! As opposed to getting pounded with snow day after day, like we did in 2013-2014 (one of the snowiest on record). 2010-2011 had even more snow, third highest in city history. 2009-2010 had alot of snow too. But you weren't here for those. This winter was nothing compared to those (recent) years, trust me.

EDIT: 7am: again, just came in from outside, Mitchell, it's GORGEOUS. Cool and breezy! Go out right now if you're reading this, get your errands done before it gets hot!

I was..7 years old in 1977.

The only thing I remember about that summer was.. and I'm sure others living in NYC remember this.

The big NYC blackout of 1977.

I remember walking down 21 floors at our apartment building that we lived in, in Manhattan, with my parents, to get out of the city, and go to NJ, because the whole city had no power for more than 24 hours.

What concerns me isn't how hot it is now but how hot it's going to be when I'm an old man.

Some scientists are predicting a massive refugee crises on a scale never before scene by Humanity has millions of people try to leave the Middle East (which might actually become too hot for humans to survive in).

Oh, haven't you heard? It's all a hoax! lol. To sell books! You know, that hot market for science books?

All those scientists don't know anything, just listen to the ones that work for the energy industry, they're the only ones who know what's going on......

LOL. I know right? Why, these so called "scientists" are making literally TRILLIONS of dollars with their so called "science" which uses such strange things as "facts" and "evidence".

Don't they know that an invisible old man who lives in the sky runs the entire world? 😉

Back on to the topic of weather.

This Friday's high in NYC is supposed to be a blazing.. 93, with sunny skies.

That will feel sooooo good! Not!

Thankfully, it is supposed to cool off into the low 80's next week.

That I don't care for, lol.

I'm not happy unless it's 66 degrees. Not even 67! lol! (I'm talking about in disgusting, filthy, grimy, humid New York, with the subway and bus exhaust and the piles of garbage in the street, and the subway platforms, etc.....I can take it hotter if I'm not in the city).

We get spring and autumn now once every two or three years up here!

......and sure enough, just to confirm my point from when it was still summer...... it's October 19th in New York, and yesterday it was 75 degrees, all the trees are still green, people walking around in t-shirts and tanks, yet again, yet another year. Even on the couple of days that approached autumn weather, it was still muggy and humid, not crisp autumn air. I remember Halloween last year or the year before was t-shirt weather, wouldn't be surprised if it was that way again this year. Definitely don't remember going to school and breaking a sweat, all the pictures I have of me as a kid in October, I'm wearing a jacket.

So to recap.....we had a super warm winter (with one day of record sub-zero weather, followed two days later by a jolt up to 68 degrees) (in February), a super warm, hot, muggy spring......a relatively muted summer, where it would be spring/fall-like weather in the mornings and then hot all day.......and now (so far) another unseasonably-warm fall. We'll have a few autumn days (possibly), but I bet it will stay like this and then either suddenly plunge to cold weather, without the fall transition...or it will just pretty much stay unseasonably warm - with little jolts of cold days - straight through till......next summer!

Autumn in New York, how I miss it......

For the last three weeks we have been 10-15 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. Late tonight or early tomorrow morning we finally have a cold front moving in. I was tired of summer by June so I can't wait.

It's been in the 80s the last few days in NYC, record high temps.

Starting tomorrow, it's supposed to cool off, a "Reality Check", as the weather forecasters keep saying.

I think the "reality check" is the 80 degree weather on October 20th, lol. Gives new meaning to the expression "endless summer". At this rate, I might as well go as one of the Beach Boys for Halloween! 😛
