A german flag, a spanish flag, a french flag, an italian flag and there is even the inclusion of the portugese flag, but
where are the following flags

The canadian flag
the dutch flag
the japanese flag
the swedish flag
the norwegian flag
the maltese flag
the greek flag
the latvian flag
the turkish fag
the icelandic flag
the indian flag
the pakistani flag..............

but most importantly where is the Union Jack and the Australian flag - nationals of both of these countries contribute far more considerably to this forum than do the portugese or the spanish.

Or perhaps we have a very much truncate "international" communit these days?

The simple reason: There's the according language behind each of the showing flags, with registering info or a link to the International Discussions forum in that language. Most of the countries you mentioned can be reached by one of those languages. Sorry, we don't speak the others (we have members from over 70 countries now)... 🙂

It doesn't take you long to find something to complain about, does it Stuart?

The new page just went up a couple of days ago as an attempt to invite a broader community to participate in the TMF. The ones that require it are linked to pages introducing people to the Forums in their own language, which took a lot of time and work to arrange. It was a remarkable effort on the parts of the people who put it together, Myriads, and I assume Hal was our translator, and it is extremely inappropriate for you to start nitpicking because it's not inclusive enough to suit you.

Unless you're volunteering to do the work of adding that mammoth list of countries you listed?

Ill say this, though: Anytime you email me a flag gif and an instruction page similar to the ones we have, in html and in that countries language, we will add it immediately!

Great work!

I remember talking with Hal when this was still a glimmer idea getting started. I couldn't believe all the effort that they put into it! Amazing...they do more for this free site than most folks do in a full day of work!! Kudos, Y'all!

I'm sure it's appreciated by the folks whose languages are there, plus the crossover of folks who can dabble in the various areas!

I think the new page looks great, escpecially considering the effort that went into it.

I suppose this would be a bad time to ask for a link in Dathomiri?😀

It never ceases to amaze me

that the people who tend to do the most bitching do the least to contribute to the community (this or any other). I agree totally with Jeff. If folks want other lanuages added, then let them do some translating and help out.

I notice the same thing a lot in the clips, images and requests sections. People are not just requesting stuff. In many cases, they're demanding it. We really need to be reminded on occassion that we're all able to find stuff the same way...look for it. I even had someone in the chat room the other day who wanted me to go to a site, DL a clip and send it to him...because he wouldn't listen when several of us told him how to do it himself. Go figure!

I think that Jeff, Myr and co. are doing a fabulous job of keeping things running here! And it's free! I think they deserve a round of applause, not more complaints.

It doesn't seem like it's said often enough...

I'm not trying to kiss anyone's ass, brown-nose, suck the c*ck, or do anything else that could correlate to the phrase "sucking up" when I say this, but for all the work you guys do here, which isn't easy (or cheap!) to run, I just want to say thanks. You guys got a thankless job, but when you pull it off, you make it look easy. Great job, and thanks again for providing a great community I can feel good about being a part of.

I think one of the best ways to show appreciation is by contributing something that is always a necessity to keep things running and that is $$$$$$$$.

Since we're on the subject of 'contribution' I want to point out a marvelous way to do it is to contribute WHAT you can WHEN you can in Dollar$ to The TMF Fund This can help aleviate some of the burden of running this place that Magic Touch Productions (Jeff) faces every month.

I subscribe to the "if-you-can't-offer-help-or-appreciation-then-shut-the-hell-up" school of thought. I'm not singling anyone out here, but I believe that this particular philosophy fits many situations.

Interesting philosophy...

I tried your theory when I was getting a traffic ticket once, MM....sigh...people can be SO unpredictable at times...:wow: Q

Well, Mia, your philosophy has just convinced me to put my money where my mouth is.

Howdy,

Just to cover things, the five languages chosen:

German
French
Italian
Spanish
Portuguese

Were chosen as they represent the 5 most used languages on the planet outside of English (which is covered by the main forum) and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandran)

Japanese, Korean, and Chinese were not picked as the forum does not support the character sets needed for these languages. Perhaps in the future... but right now we can't post in them.

If I see a demand for a forum in any of the languages that are not in the above groups I'll do my best to add an international forum for it, and get translations and links for joining. At this point we are just starting to see a regular use of the 'big 5' so I figure it will take a bit. But if demand arrives we'll answer.

And to all the kind comments, thank you very much! Glad you like it!

Later,
Myriads

Mia, just trying to understand. Are you saying, in essence, If you don't contribute than you should not post? That school of thought can lead to many misunderstandings, especially coming from a Mod. Trouble is, it kind of implies either contribute, say something that you approve of, or don't voice an opinion. I don't always agree with everything said here but I think that all opinions should be heard without consequence or price. I did not see any notice on the front page of this site that said contribute or be silent. I guess what really bothers me is that there are people here who either don't have anything to contribute, don't know how to post what they have to contribute, or plain just don't have time. Should they shut up as well? It is obvious that pleasing everyone is impossible but what does it hurt if the guy voices his opinion that he doesn't like the format. That is freedom of speech and that is the beauty of this country. In my opinion, I think the tone of your comment "shut the hell up" is a perfect bate for a flame and is not what I think of when I think of what a moderator would post. But, as always, just my opinion. What do I know anyways?

I think that this is pretty plain English. "Contribute What you can when you can." " One of the best ways..." etc.

I swear that our words are getting put under a microscope lately. We wouldn't have to answer so many "Are you trying to say" questions if folks would just read what we do say.

And to say this yet again...freedom of speech has its limits in social situations. If someone is over at your house, they have the freedom to say whatever they want, but what will you do if they exercize this right by saying something rude or nasty? They probably won't spend a long time in your house, will they? I can't speak for everyone, but I'm getting a tad fed up with "freedom of speech" being used to cover up boorish behavior (just a statement in general). And let's save the "In This Great Land of Ours" stuff for the topics where it's actually relevant.

Don't get it twisted, Talons.

I'm confident that most members understand what I said in my previous post. I said nothing more than I subscibe "if-you-can't-offer-help-or-appreciation-then-shut-the-hell-up". I SUBSCRIBE being the the opperative phrase. I think it's in plain English.
I never said anything about anyone else having to follow suite. I think for the most part we're all adults and can make the decision on whether or not we want to follow along or not.

I can't possibly see how my post would be a flame bait unless you intentionally set out to "twist" it into one. I believe it to be a very positive thing to support the community that we all enjoy so much. Some can volunteer time & energy, others can donate $$$, and others can contribute thought provoking tipics that allow us to grow as ticklefans and people.

Idunno, did I "Untwist" anything or is it still tangled?🙄

This is my first day back from a long absence and the first I've seen of the new page. It looks great! Ignore the soreheads and nay-sayers.
