When God was handing out all the artistic talent in the world, he gave me like a fifth of a serving. Fortunately, I'm fairly handy with the English language, and I've been wanting to write a tickle story and see how the community likes it. I could probably come up with a good idea on my own, but I thought it'd be fun to post a few well-known tickle cartoons (none that have any text describing the backstory), and let you vote on them. I'll write a story about the winner.

Obviously I'm not trying to write a canon literary addition to someone else's work. I just thought it'd be something new and fun to try, but if it's not kosher for some reason, I'll think of something to write about myself. Thoughts? Feelings?

The most important thing is "whatever works for you."

Based on what works for me (which isn't necessarily the same thing), I'd go through artwork files until I saw one that I really liked, and thus that really engaged my imagination. Seeing a drawing that really engaged my imagination is how I ended up writing "A Secret Military Experiment," "Cutting Out Expedition," and "Subject A."

OTOH, a "challenge" can sometimes give me a story idea too. So "write a story based on this drawing" isn't far-fetched.

Finally, I've always considered myself one of those "can't draw worth a darn" people too. Still do, to a large extent. But three years and a several dozen drawings worth of practice have resulted in what I have to admit is a big improvement. There was a thread some time back in the artwork forum where people posted their early efforts vs their then-current efforts as a "look how much I've improved." For me, the important things were lots of practice, a little instruction (via books & on-line tutorials), a heavy reliance on reference photos, tools that went with the way I think (CorelDraw, rather than Photoshop, "paint" programs, or non-computer media) and lots more practice. So don't give up on your ability to draw.

Oh yes, one other thing: Be sure to check out my sticky rant on formatting before you post your story.

Read your format thread, and that's all stuff I'm perfectly aware of. But thanks for the suggestion.

I guess I won't be getting much feedback until I actually post some pictures, so I'll try to post some later tonight.
