Illuminati, real, imaginary, myth?

So, this is where you can debate the existence of a supposedly real, evil, secret society.

Are they real, bent on world domination?
Are they behind every major war and disater since the French Revolution?
Are they advancing a New World Order agenda of disarmament, one world government, BioChip implants that will basically be "the mark of the Beast," One world religion that will one day worhip the most evil man in existence....
and finally, be a huge conspiracy who's final end is to prop up the Anti-Christ to dominate the entire planet for the end of time?

Or, are they a well made up story?
A tool by the Religious Right to scare us all into turning over control to them?
A myth so based in reality, like an urban legend, that people refuse to believe they aren't in control, even when presented with evidence that they are a myth? (it's really hard to disprove something. How can you prove that something DOESN'T exist?)

this is a first for me...

...the first time i've ever heard anyone tie the iluminate in with a religious movment. i've never known about any "mark of the beast" or that the religious right is for, or against them. wow, the things i hear, and see on this board... it is an adventure to come here everyday!
now as to are they real? i hope so, it gives the nut cases something to worry about, so they aren't looking at me!

I have read books about the Illuminati and control agenda.There is at least some theorizing about implants being the "mark of the beast"
and their use in control.
As these same people tie the Council on Foreign Relations(CFR)and the Trilateral Commission(TC)to the Illuminati,there is some level of belief in the Illuminati's existence and current power wielding in various world governments.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this theory is that there is no preferred right or left wing dominance.There are members of the TC/CFR that are leftist and rightist in their political beliefs.
The common denominator is TC/CFR control.
As far as real,the TC/CFR both have agendas of central control,no borders,and anti-sovereignty,as well as global economics and one world government.These groups DO exist,so you can draw you own conclusions one way or the other.

The modern illuminati myth was created by the writers of the Playboy advisor collumn in the 1960's. It started off as an inside joke to amuse themselves and it snowballed.

I shared a long correspondence with an author who watched this entire process get it's start, as he was friends with the advisors of the period. He found it pretty amusing that people have taken it all so seriously.
