I'm Back/Back to Writing [maybe]

Hi All! Well, it took me a few months of work, but I finally got my old laptop up and running again [somewhat]. Did I miss anything good?

I came up with a few good story ideas while my PC was down, but didn't write them down [I know, stupid, right], so now I'm a complete blank as far as writing goes.

I've been thinking for the last few days that I would like to write a novel, or a novel-length series of stories.

The thing that I hit a roadblock with, is the copyright issue of other books/stories. Like I was on LIT [on my Kindle] and found this one story that had a copyright on it saying that the writer would sue you if you even used an idea remotely close to his/hers. Needless to say, I didn't read it past the copyright.

and, now-a-days, there are so many book books [not internet stories] that it's hard on to step on someone's toes.

As long as you're not selling it, you're pretty safe.
It's difficult to prove that a general idea is the sole property of another author, and just because someone says something in a copyright "statement", doesn't mean it's legally binding.
A lot of authors have made their entire careers basically ripping off others.

That is my ultimate dream though, to one day be a good enough writer to sell my stories.

but, as for now, I am glad to hear I won't be sued. That takes a lot of the stress off me, thanks!

I know it happens a lot. I see it in movies, TV [Carlos Mensea], Video games, ETC, but, like I said, there is so much stuff now-a-days that it's hard not to ripe off the others [even if it is an accident-which in my case, it would be. I try to be very careful when I write]
