Alex has made alot of friends at the TMF. If he were to just leave without announcing it these friends might be concerned about his well being. By announcing his leaving we now know that he hasn't been in a car accident or anything terrible. "What ever happened to Alex?"
A few months after Daddy closed down HotelTickle I saw a post from him on another forum titled "In memory of SexiMexi". Mexi was Daddy's girl friend. This post led me to believe that this girl had come to an untimely demise. I was releived about 2 years later when I corresponded with Daddy on the TMF and he told me that they had simply broken up.
After the attacks on 9/11 I was unable to log onto my computer for a few days. When I finally logged back into the TMF I saw several concerned posts from people wondering if I was anywhere near the disaster. If I had chosen to leave the Forum at that point, without announcement, then the only conclusion people would have drawn was that I died at Ground Zero.
Some of us have made friends here, even if they are only friends that we interact with on the net.
There are others who come here who would NOT be missed if they left. Unfortunately, none of them seem to be leaving.

Why do you care? Why get involved? Why waste your obviously extremely precious time on something that you think shouldn't have mattered even to the person who posted it? Why not stay focused on whatever mystery items make it onto the "list of relevent things" in Neutron's Land of Disgruntled Comments?

And...I'm with Jeff on his post. If a member wishes to leave, they have every right to say goodbye. You don't just walk out of a house during a party, you say goodbye to your host first. Just to cover this for everyone; the next time someone wishes to make an announcement of this nature, either add something positive, ask a relevant question...or stay out of it.

And as for tron, maybe he doesn't get that this place has been a stepping stone to many friendships. Chat, emails, phone calls, gatherings. It's no different than meeting someone at a bar, a church, a casino, or a political rally. It's a place for common interests to gather...and *gasp* believe it or not, you can really come to come deeply for folks you've not seen. Try to convince a blind person of anything differnt! It's like trying to convince an egotistical jerk that there is no reason to be mean to someone for the sake of sport.

I get just as many emails from people who frequent this place who say Well said Neutron, glad you speak your mind. I didn't post anything nasty. I asked a simple question, and voiced an opinion. In real life I have p[lenty of friends, all of whom admire my honesty, loyalty, generousity and philosophy that if you go around watching what you say, you swon't get a whole lot said. Either way is fine with me. 6 of one, half dozen of another.
Now I wonder, how many of ya'll have actually met Alex in person? Just curious. By the way, I doubt any blind people are using this forum, and they always have the option of physical contact, and hearing a voice.

Glad your friends admire your honesty. However, even cruelty can be honest and open...not neccessarily a good thing. It's been said time and time again that the TMF is a meeting place of the minds if not the body. If you don't believe that people can be friends without meeting each other, that's fine, but don't assume everyone else has to feel the same way. You said in a separate thread that you admired the British Navy. Ever met the guy you so admired and quoted? See, it's not a prerequisite.
Honesty and openess are welcome, but would it really kill people to be pleasant? We are the higher species, after all. 😎
