I'm still not getting it on how to post a picture

Hi.

I would like to post a picture in a thread, a 1-time thing, not a "signature".... Not a link, either, but the actual image. I went to the vB Code help area and did the

thing, but all that did was post the link, not the pic. I tried doing it as an attachment, too, but while I can "copy" the code, I can't "paste" it in the Attach File area, which is a moot point anyway since I guess it would only show up as a link again. What can I do just to post a picture in one thread I create, but not have it follow me around like a sig and have it be an actual image & not a link?

If it matters, this image will be in my Yahoo Briefcase....

step 1) Upload the image to some web space you own that is considered 'linkable', geocities and yahoo are NOT linkable. You CANNOT use attachments on the TMF, we couldn't handle the bandwidth hit if we did.

2) Use the IMG vb codes to place the image in your post. Put the URL of where you placed the image between the two code tags.

Your image will appear in the post.

Okay, I put my image at myimg.com , and just now right here on this page put up the http code bracketed by the image codes, i.e.:

[/COLOR]
http/pblahblablah.jpg[COLOR=red]


But when I checked on it I didn't see the actual picture, juts the text code which linked to the image. What am I doing wrong in not being able to get the image up?

You don't see tyhe image now becuaseI edited it out, but I think you see what I mean....

Do I have to use red letters?

you have no image because your url is wrong.

all url's start with http://

without the colon and 2 slashes the forum cannot find where you have the image stored. The images url must be EXACTLY like it would be typed in your browsers window.

For example the forums logo is at

http://www.ticklingforum.com/boardimages/newpicframe.jpg

so with the tags

we get the image.

The above code was just an example, not meant to be take literally. But now when I put the tags on my code they aren't there - see?

I see the bracketed "img" tags as I edit this, but when I submit it and the page refreshes they are not there as part of the code - which they shouldn't be - nor is the picture there, as it SHOULD be, if I have done everything right. There is just the link. I'm going to give upon this and just post the link.

It shows like this because you are not linking an image, you are linking a page of html code with an image in it.

IMG only works with jpgs, gifs, and other image formats. NOT with html or php coded locations.

Here just use the images url:

Thank you Myriads. There is so little I know about computers, codes and so on. I can never seem to get any of this right.

Not a problem. I don't expect anyone to know about the trivialities of computers and the web. You shouldn't have to. It's why we are here to help. We want the forum to be an easy as possible experience.

Heck, I had no idea what the issue was until I was able to see exactly what you were trying. And even then, I had to think about it for a bit until I realized the issue 🙂 It had never occured to me that a user might use IMG on a non-image format URL and thus I didn't understand your issue (Or even know what the forum would do if it was tried). Now I do, and will be ready for it when it comes about again in a year or two. It's been a valuable learning experience!
