I'm sure you have heard about the 4 German ISAF soldiers in Kabul. Remembering their deaths for a peace mission, I post the song here which is always played at the funeral of German soldiers: "Ich hatt' einen Kameraden".

Tr. Frank 1997
In battle he was my comrade,
None better I have had.
The drum called us to fight,
He always on my right,
: In step, through good and bad. :

A bullet it flew towards us,
For him or meant for me?
His life from mine it tore,
At my feet a piece of gore,
: As if a part of me. :

His hand reached up to hold mine.
I must re-load my gun.
"My friend, I cannot ease your pain,
In life eternal we’ll meet again,
: And walk once more as one." :

May they rest in peace!

If you want to hear the melody, it can be downloaded here: http://ingeb.org/Lieder/IchHattE.html

During funerals, it's usually played by a single trumpet, and it never fails to make my spine freeze.

Please refrain from political discussions in this thread, this is exclusively dedicated to the 4 soldiers. Thanks!

These four soldiers, who gave their lives for the cause of peace, are of blessed memory. May they rest in peace.

God values both courage and honor. These men must have had large quantities of both. May their souls journey straight to heaven, because they've already spent their time in hell.

All of humanity feel the loss of a single man of honor.

God Bless these four men. To die while giving your life to keeping the peace is an honor of the highest regard. Thank you for posting this, Hal.

where's the honor in being killed by a cowardly act?

i'll morn the loss of fellow soldiers, no matter what country they are from. there is a bond that soldiers share, and it crosses all borders. gehen sie mit gott miene freunde.

May they rest in eternal peace. Their service and sacrifice is appreciated. I pray for those they left behind, that they may find the peace and strength to move on.
