Next Monday we observe Memorial Day. Many of us will gather with family and friends for a cookout, a trip to a lake or beach or other activities. Enjoy your weekend, but take a moment to remember what the day really stands for.

My brother is ex Army Infantry but he served in Korea after Desert Storm. However, I have two cousins, brother and sister who served in Iraq during Desert Storm. Thankfully they are back home. There are many more who served who never got to come back home.

Thank you for reminding us that Memorial Day is SO much more than a kickoff to the summer season, Bugman.

My mom's uncle was killed in action on the black sands of Iwo Jima, just near Mt. Suribachi. My grandma was always proud of him. He lives forever in the globe and anchor.
