I saw alot of compelling footage today on TV. Even more compelling than the bombing was footage of people in Southern Iraq dancing in the streets, and while an American soldier was tearing down a poster of Saddam, a peasant ran up with his shoe and starting beating Saddam's face on the poster.
These people are glad he's going away.
Even if Iraq doesn't have one grain of illegal weaponry, we still belong over there fighting. Why? Read the first paragraph of my post.
I just wish I could sit down with the Pres of France, Sean Penn, Madonna, and every other ignorant jackass who does not understand why we're over there, and force them to watch this footage. The people protesting in the streets of America should watch the footage of these dancing peasants and re-evaluate their opinions.
When Saddam offers $20,000 to the families of suicide bombers he is nothing more than a supporter of terrorism. Do you really think he'd refuse to sell terrorists weapons? He needs to go. If you don't believe me, just ask some southern Iraqi peasants what they think. They're alot closer to the situation than anyone else. I'm sure they'd have a valid opinion. Actually, their opinion was made pretty clear to me when I saw them beating Saddam's image with their shoes and dancing in the streets. Did I mention the Arab lady covered from head to toe in religious garb who was hugging all of the American and British soldiers who just liberated them?

Cheers.😀

I've been watching the coverage off and on all day, and I saw the exact same footage you did, Wallstreet. The looks on those people's faces... Some cheering, some dancing, some just chatting with the Marines- and one man taking out years of pent-up fury on the hated image of his former oppressor- it gave me a warm, happy feeling inside. Especially in light of all the ugliness that has followed 9/11, it's great to see scenes like this. 🙂

Yes

I agree, it is great to see this sort of thing....those people can finally no longer live in fear....

Amen. There are things worth fighting for. Freedom and human dignity are way up on that list.

Where did all the confident anti-war posters on here go? Did they miss this thread?

I have no love for Saddam, and I hope the people of Iraq will indeed no longer suffer. But whenever we see footage like the scenes WallStreet described, let's keep in mind the troops and civilians who have already died and will die because of this war, the fighting that lies ahead, how negatively we are perceived by much of the world right now, and how hard it will be to rebuild Iraq after all is said and done. (Who will take over? Not one of his sons, I hope.) And those of us against this war DO understand why we're fighting it, but does that mean we have to support it? (Remember also that it is possible to be anti-war and behind the troops at the same time.) We all have the right to protest peacefully and have opinions in America, the last time I checked.

Yep

Your right, amk. But now your anti-war opinions no longer matter. (im not just talking to you, either) This is war, and now we must hope and pray for the best. The outcome of this war will make all the efforts worth it.

amk, a question or two?

when you see the spontanious out pourings from the "liberated" people, don't you think maybe this war is the right thing to do?
do you stop and think, that maybe president bush isn't a warmonger, psycho, but a leader who saw an intolerable evil, and knew his duty to america, and the world was to remove this evil?
when all is said, and this war is done, i hope all the anti-war protesters will have the graciousness to admit they were wrong.

No-one will miss the miserable fucker. I'm glad he's on his way out, you're glad he's on his way out and they are glad he's on his way out. Personally I think he was probably slotted in the first strike, when that house over the bunker got splatted. I've heard reports (on Claptrap No News no less!) that say he and three others were stretchered out of the place with an oxygen mask on.

Ding dong, the witch is dead!

Good to see that the media is working nicely to provide the public with inspiring images of liberated iraqi citizens letting out their pent-up frustrations upon images of their former oppressor instead of depressing footage of people screaming and crying and suffering while the bombs are falling around them and their neighbors are torn to shreds before their own eyes. It's always such a relief to see positive media coverage for once.

Yes, it is nice to finally see some positive meida coverage for a change!
So many of Saddam's so called army! :blaugh: Have given up! I don't whether or not he is alive or dead, or his sons. In the words of a Southern Gentleman "Rhett Butler" Frankly my dear I don't give a Damn!!!!! I pray that our men and women will come home safe and sound, and pray for their families to be strong while their away! I wish it were where you could send the soldiers packages like you could in the Gulf war, I had several pen-pals and sent them supplies like stamps, envelopes, paper, CD's, gum, candy, junk food, gatorade, and shaving supplies. They would write and ask me for certain things, batteries, books, comic books. But you can't do that now
🙁 :dropatear:

Marauder,

Who do you trust for news coverage? Here's one from Reuters: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...e=2&u=/nm/20030322/ts_nm/iraq_usa_soldiers_dc

Last paragraph of that article:

"The RPG position has been cleared already...In fact, there was the extraordinary sight of local people actually pointing out some of those positions that were being fired from," Brazier said, speaking rapidly by satellite phone before he had to cut off.

and here's an AP article: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030321/ap_on_re_mi_ea/war_conquered_town_4

If you can't trust AP and Reuters quit watching TV and reading the newspaper.

Propaganda times two...

Works both ways...it counterbalances the inevitable shots released of small children in hospitals that were "targeted" by the attack.

Btw,many of us view the constant footage of war protestors as much the same category...supporting an inflexible position with a barrage of a minority view and exaggerating their numbers. I've personally witnessed a few in NYCity that were labeled as "massive" protests that had barely a hundred people involved. There were more bystanders than that yelling their counter opinions, but they somehow don't make it onto the airwaves.

It's all about selling Coca-Cola anyway, bud.

*shrug* Q

Yep, this is one hell of a nice world we live in, with it's abundance of information and all. Sure, propaganda goes both ways. Good to see that it's used to the benefit of the free world. I certainly feel much better knowing that the Shiit population of southern Iraq continues to hate Saddam's regime, now that they've once more had the opportunity of being safe from oppression via the presence of U.S. Marines between themselves and Saddam's forces. The last time they experienced this was just prior to being left to their own devices after GW1, and the subsequent slaughters.

Tsk tsk, now now M! Ain't you mods supposed to be a calming influence and all that? If all mods could really speak their independant minds, maybe I would have been made one long ago.

Yup...

We got bitched at back then for fighting, get bitched at now for not fighting enough THEN....and meanwhile the guy doing the slaughtering is about to get tossed on his ear, and given a case of Coca-Cola for a going away present. Damned if you do...damned if you don't. Only one option left! Pop top and ruin ye olde stomach !

forget it qjakel

keep in mind the old expression "none are so blind as he who WILL NOT SEE".
another thought maurader, could it be that we don't see the type of pictures you so evidently want to see, because they aren't happening?!?!
in case you aren't paying attention, the only munitions the u.s. is using are guided munitions. the result being almost no colateral damage.

Absolutely! Fully agree.

A good point...

Sir Marauder and I aren't trying to convince each other of anything. Just blowing off steam and making a few points. I think all reasonable people would like to see situations such as dictators that are out of control resolved in a better, less "wasteful" fashion...we only disagree about how to achieve the goal and the tactics of the people involved in the process. I'm sure there IS a great deal of crap going on in both directions that we never see, but it's just not something we will ever be able to control or solve, so it's frustrating/annoying. Back to my Coca-Cola theory!

For every evil there is a good...for every act of wickedness, an act of kindness...that's the way this earthly life is...and always will be...

Two sides to every story...we have to pick the acts of kindness and the good results over the bad...or cease to exist..evil will not go away on it's own.....it just needs a little shove over the cliff every now and then....

We are at war...disagree with policy all you want..we are at war, and will fight it to the end. History will be the judge of whether or not it was the right thing to do...not you or I....we will be long gone
from this plane of existence before the real results are in..hopefully not due to a terrorist fought with diplomacy......

Yea..

Hopefully....I have a bad feeling about all this...
