It's going to be called "Death Magnetic" and it will be released on September 15, 2008. Anybody hear anything about it or looking forward to it?

I think I heard about that. It seems to be the trend. AcDc has a new one coming out soon and also journey I think.

I'm one of those Metallica snobs who happens to believe that Metallica ten minutes ago was better than Metallica presently...so I'm not really a person to gauge anything by, but the short answer would be "no." After Black Album, Metallica sort of lost their magic. Their greatest attempts to recover what they had lost, IMO, was S&M and Garage, Inc., but even those were a bit too new-Metallica for me.

S&M actually can't be too "new-metallica" beacause they mostly played old songs, just with an orchestra 😉

To "Death Magnetic" and the statement of the band, it would rather sound like "...And justice for all", im pretty excited. Let's see how well they've done

I'm very excited about it.

Here are two clips of them playing two new songs live in 2006.

I really like this one:

Nope not really. Metallica are grand and an amazing band  But i'm just not that interested in the new album by them.

I'll probably give it a listen but I dont have any hope for it. Metallica gave up on their roots, years ago.. Metallica was a great thrash metal band for the three thrash albums they had, one being with Dave Mustaine, my personal favorite and they have some good songs, but personally I think they get way to much credit. At a metal show they played one megadeth song during the interludes when bands would change their gear and five freaking metallica songs. Personally I think that one Megadeth song was better than all of those Metallica songs. There are other thrash bands out there.

You'd certainly think that. However, something about that album just sounds...softer--and it's not the presence of the symphony. James's voice just doesn't have the intensity or thrash of the older albums, and Lars's drum work is just awful anymore (the tin rim sound gets annoying after awhile).

In my opinion, Metallica = Over.

I was kinda into 'em in the 90s, but I guess I never was that much. In the last few years they just turned into whiny, fan-suing, RIAA-loving pr*cks that rode on the coattails of their work from over a decade previous.

Besides, Eddie Van Halen could whip Kirk Hammet's arse any day of the week.
