Is Iraq going to turn into a new Northern Ireland?

I'm of Irish descent. My grandfather on my father's side was born in Dublin, and my grandmother on my Mother's side was born in Belfast. The British have occupied Norther Ireland for decades, but I have been told by many Brits and Irish that they would love to get out of Northern Ireland, but they fear a bloody civil was between the Protestants and the Catholics if they pull out. So they reluctantly stay.

I know we have only been in Iraq a few months and the political climate is a little unpredictable. It does seem, however, that we may face the same danger that the British faced in Northern Ireland. Afraid to leave becacuse we fear a civil war between the Sunnis and Shites.

shiites sunnis and kurds were getting along better before us intervention and the baath party coup when hussien came to power and started to repress both with US support in all forms.

shiites and sunnis are certainly united in wanting an end to the occupation, i dont feel the flames of civil war have been faned enought yet.

....dont get me started! you guys need to look at your record of giving massive financial support to the many appalling acts of terrorism in Northern Ireland. Which mostly dried up (thankfully)post 9/11. Look at it this way, how would you feel if the Brits suddenly started donating millions of dollars to Bin Laden or Al Kaida? ....so if you are thinking about it, dont give money to Noraid.

Northern Island is a massive drain on U.K. resources in the form of Armed forces and aid. The place is a complete basket case, we dont want it, and it does not want us, but the Republic of Ireland does not the place either. So what the hell do we do? pump millions of pounds in to the place year after year, and what do we get? hideous outrages like Inniskillin, Ohmagh, Birmingham pub bombings, Canary Wharf and so on.

u people need to realize that government feeds off violence. its goal is to pump billions of dollars into conflict, whether in northern ireland, occupied palestine, central america, iraq ,etcc

thats because you pay for it, and their resources are protected, they makke money of the arms trade, and that also creates a culture of fear which lets them remain in power

OK, so we can strike any target we want, but can we set up a strong Iraqi self government that will not fall the moment we leave. This is the big challenge. Yes we kicked plenty of ass in Nam, but we couldn't set up a legitamate government that had the support of the people.

If I remember correctly, the casualties caused by the US were over three million in Vietnam, compared to a hudred thousand inflicted on them. If numbers won wars, then youse guys would've won it hands down.

The real loss wasn't the failiure to prevent communism taking over all of Vietnam, although that was bad. It was the way a lot of people in the US treated the traumatised veterans n their return. That was so cruel, heartless and brainless that it sucked the shit out of a dead dog's arse.
