Is it possible to rip a DVD to iPod?

Hey. 🙂

I've had a video iPod for a while and have yet to upload any video's onto it... (yep, wasted money. 😛)

Anyway, I've bought some films and videos from iTunes itself, but I was curious if there was a way to upload DVD's to the iPod?

Do I need a converter? or does iTunes/Quick time have one built in?

Advice would be nice. 😀

You would have to get the video and audio off of the DVD first. To my knowledge that is illegal in most countries, although easily done. I don't know if Engerland is one where it is verboten ...

Start with a program called dvdshrink. DVD Decrypter is also good.

also you could try a program called handbrake but it takes a while

Handbrake, Mac the Ripper, those are my two faves. Mac the Ripper performs decently quick on my dual 500MHz G4.

DVD::rip and DVDecoder are two good command line packages that offer great performance. Assuming you're not scared to touch a terminal window 😉

The most important thing to know is format. iPod supports MPEG4 and H.264 format. The original video iPod's native resolution was 320x240. The current generation iPod nano also supports the same rez.

Check out howtos available on the internet for your platform. You can use Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows. Makes no difference. If more questions still exist, ask! 😀
