I still remember coming down the steps of my stepmother's home to see my father watching the television in the living room while crying, saying over and over again, "my god, they were torn to pieces". My father was a space lover, science fiction lover, and a true fan of NASA. It was his childhood dream to somehow work for NASA one day but in the end he had to settle for working as a human resource director for a former USA military contractor who supplied NASA with some of their technical equipment / hardware. Yet that morning my father (and of course me) were both devastated at the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia. I've always wondered, did my nation ever erect a memorial for those brave astronauts that gave everything for their nation, their race, and their planet? Does anyone know?
