Ok so I love my incadescent bulbs mainly cause they have a CRI (color rendering index ) very close to 100. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_rendering_index Meaning that they are very good at reproducing colors faithfully of an object in comparison to a natural light source. A very good thing if you are an artist like me. CFL bulbs have low CRI's usually though some are getting better. The new LED bulbs have really good CRI's and exceptional long life so I am giving one a try. They are a bit pricey but the prices are dropping. I will let you know what I think.

Right now the pros are for LED bulbs:

Very long life like 20000 hours.

Instant start up (unlike CFLs)

No mercury (unlike CFLs)

High CRI

The cons are for LED bulbs:

Light is somewhat directional

Expensive

Need a bit of airspace or the bulb gets to warm and this affects bulb life.
 
I haven't tried the LED home lamp bulbs, but I do love the led flashlight bulbs. They are more expensive too, but produce more light and last much longer than the incas.

Special diffusers and computation of number of fixtures needed in a work plane can achieve a more distributed luminance. LED has more promise to it other than low wattage per lumens… and lol, the researches I read get intermixed with what marketing rep say/bet about long term use. It's another path of decision to take or nerve wracking transition.

Yea I bought a warm white, I might get a cool white to even things up perhaps.
 
I got the bulb today. Its suppose to last 50000 hours. It might out live me :laughhard: 😀 😛

Maybe it will be like the gum commercial where they hire a Yeti to force you to buy another light bulb. 😛

I have seen some High CRI CFL's out there. A 93 CRI rating. This bulb had only a 85 CRI. I will let you know as i look into it more. 😀

13watt = 630 lumens

15watt= 720 lumens

20watt= 960 lumens

The LED bulb I have is 800 lumens.

Actually LED light is tricky. The lumens in specs are lower and yet it can achieve a favorable CRI. That is why there are testimonies that they are dimmer.
A 40 watt linear FL could emit up to 1900-3000 lumens or so, but will depend on the manufacturer. And yes, they can get glary.

I have heard that. 🙂 Thats why I bought a 65 watt equivalent LED bulb to replace one of the 40 watt incadescent I have. Hopefully thats enough light. 🙂

Considering a workable CRI 80-90 is fair enough, minus the excessive glare! Some things are getting interesting.

Lots of cool stuff. Somne of these LED Bulbs even have remote controls with them and you can even change the color of the bulb. How wild is that? :yowzer:
