It is not a coincidence that the Dodger won the NL Pennant in 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955*, and 1956 during Robinson's all too brief major league career.

Jackie Robinson was an amazing man, a true American hero. In spite of racial taunts from opponents and fans, as well as deliberate attempts by other players to injure him he kept his agreement with Branch Rickey and did not retaliate on the field. R.I.P. Here's to you, Mr. Robinson. You helped change this country for the better.

I love the way the Dodgers celebrated Jackie Robinson Day: with a triple play to end a threat in the top of the 9th inning and a walk-off RBI single with two outs, bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th.

Another great man, Owens was the first American to win four gold medals during a single Olympics in Berlin Germany, 1936. A furious Adolph Hitler stormed out of the stadium, his dream of demonstrating "Aryan superiority" on a world stage in shambles.
