It's magic! Maburaho ( tk pic f*/f )

I did this for Jaynin a few days ago. In a break with tradition I'm REMEMBERING to post in here.
This took an ungodly amount of time to do. I worked really hard on it because the Maburaho art is soooooo gorgeous and I wanted it to not look too crappy in comparison. Check out Jay's Maburaho postings on this page of Anime Chicks and the next page.

It's not often that I do a picture in more than one sitting. This one spanned 2 days and took maybe 6 to 8 hours to complete.

Well, you asked for feedback... It's beautifully drawn, but I don't like the facial expression at all. It's a look of pain and discomfort, not laughter or holding back laughter.

That's purely a personal preference matter, though. The technical skill is indisputable.

Cosmic! The mood is both dreamy and explosive, as though the discovery of first-time touch were unleashing a confusion of emotions (with point-of-contact starbursts!) The swirling, dancing mists and streaky azure background lend admirable depth and an aura of weightless reverie, aided by the tickler's gently flowing violet tresses! The colors are lush and balance nicely (the soft edged star-trails tie images togther most effectively), and texture is well achieved, particularly the layering effect of the aforementioned purple locks! I do like the differing reactions as pleasure is given and received: the toucher's leisurely, luxurious delicacy; the touched with powerful blush and clenched teeth, as sensation threatens to overwhelm her! Tactile in a most ethereal way! Very different (but in a uniquely Nessie way!)

Owen: it is more like a mix of panic and embarrasment. or, it's supposed to be. It makes more sense in context of who the charracters are. Though since Ive seen so little of the series myself even that may be a bit off.

LBH: You commentary always warrents more praise than the work you're commenting on. XD The piccy of mine on that site is one I only posted last week or so. My international distributors are quick ^^. From what babelfish and Jayman could tell me the text with the picture says something like "I didn't check TT for a while, so there were a lot of new pictures (@_@; ) All of these were good. ^^"

Excellent work nessonite. Judging from what I see in the pictures that jayanin posted in the other thread, you've kept strikingly close to the feel of Maburaho. I've got to hand it to you, that is some amazing photoshop work. The colouring and shading is far above what I have come to expect in any tickling picture, well, actually any fan picture at all. It's also a clean, cute premise. You see much less of that now adays...

How did you do that colourful swirly magic effect, though? It is very unique, and I can't figure out how you did it for the life of me! You are a photoshop master!

Hard to say...it's a combination of a bunch of things and I'm not sure I remember the sequence.

First I drew the swirly bits freehand using a large, soft brish. I made a pink line and a purple and a yellow swired together. I then added an outside glow to them and a bevel/emboss without a shadow. I made them partially transparent and erased bit of them where I wanted the image to show through more.
I added the star-like sparkles by making one and them copying it all over the place. The little magical floaty bits were made with a queer photoshop brush that's supposed to be falling leaves. I found that you can add a varying amount of "squashiness" to them, making them just indistict little flecks. I think I might use this for a snow effect sometime.
So...yeah. I don't think I forgot anything.
For the background I tried using that effect you mentioned when I asked about your signature pic. It didnt come out quite the way I wanted it to but I added a gradiant to the center and an inner shadow around the border and it turned out really great looking I think.

You explained it pretty well, I understand what you did now. Did you see a tutorial on that or invent it yourself? If you came up with it, then you are very inventive!

It's sort of funny because when I was looking at the background, I was thinking "This looks sort of familiar, I wonder if she tried that to do that thing I did...". I guess I was right! It definitly turned out looking really sharp. It has sort of an electric feel to it, or maybe even like a vortex. Either way it goes really well with the magic feel to the picture. 😀

A1...I kinda made it up as I went along. I had a basic outcome in mind. The great thing about knowing a lot of photoshop tricks is that you can really tweak things and have a good idea what's going to happen. Photoshop can do ANYTHING if you know what buttons to push. ^^
