The American Association for the English Language made the official decision to allow 'nucular' as an acceptable pronounciation of the word 'nuclear'. This decision came on behalf of a recommendation to review the pronounciation from the White House. They're argument? "That's how President Bush says it."

O_O

Oooh crap. It starts. Hey SS, if things keep going this way, I might need the name of a good hotel up in Canada!😛

It was funny with Homer Simpson, but Homer Simpson isn't the leader of the free world.

And even then, his screw-ups at work never killed anyone.

Right! Time to seriously abandon English. Don't want to be stuck with this stupid language anymore.

Not after our so called "fearless leader" butchered it to death.
Also, congratulations on reaching 1500 posts😀

is this for real? i can't believe this... i'm gonna have another nightmare where one of Dubya's daughters wins the presidential election in 10 years.

Yep. The butchering of the English language by GWB may actually be second only to Tony Danza. It's getting pretty bad.

Just this once, it was on the CBC news radio today. 🙂

"Dear President Bush;
Please stop raping, butchering, and killing me. It hurts.
Sincerely,
The English Language"

I ask because I didn't see it in the papers or hear about it on tv.

ROTFLMAO!!!

Any person, including myself, should be ashamed for letting these crimes against the English language go on for so long. I do my best to police myself goddamnit... *sniff* :'(

No, we aren't all. Just people making fun of an atrocious crime against the English Language.
Seriously, we should keep the politics off the threads.

"Atrocious crime against the English language..."

Is that for real? Atrocious? Atrocious is the Holocaust. Atrocious is beheading people. Atrocious is killing people for watching the World Cup on TV. How does pronouncing "nucular" ever qualify as an atrocious crime against English when words are pronounced differently all across the country. That's where accents come from.

Don't like Bush politically, then say so bluntly, but don't try to nitpick and attack every little thing you can in a childish attempt to belittle the other side.

Do you think no one's ever told him? My best guess is that people have and he's brushed them off, and now does it to drive people crazy. $2 says on his last day in office he gives a speech on live TV and at the very very end before turning around says, "Nuclear" and flips off the camera.

I concur. Though, I'm sure they were all just exagerating for the sake of conversation/banter. Many of our members do that when the topic has very little merit or room for discussion and is trivial, as is the case here.

Are you sure of the name of the association? It doesn't exist on the internet. I always thought Oxford was considered the guardian of the English language. I actually wouldn't be too worried about what an American group says of English- no one speaks it here.
lol- "They're argument"
lol- "pronounciation" (stick that word in Google by itself)
