it's Veteran's Day...

my grandfather and my great uncle served in WWI

my father served in the Korean War, but was not sent overseas..to his ever lasting regret..he remained a soldier at heart til the day he died..

my husband's uncle ran away from home at the age of 17, joined the Navy and was killed three months after Pearl Harbor, in the Pacific Ocean..we have his letters to his mother, the newspaper article about his death. etc..

my husband's other uncle was behind enemy lines in Germany in WWII...til his dying day he never breathed a word about what happened..

my best friend was wounded by a road bomb in Iraq, a member of the special MP unit after 9/11..

today is Veteran's Day...please remember those who died so that we could live in freedom..

I totally agree, thank you Izzy for starting such a thoughtful thread. I certainly remember those who have allowed others to live in freedom.

Sorry to hear you lost your dad and grandpa. We had a 2 minute silence at work today for those who have been lost in every war scince 1918.

thanks you two...seems a better thing to think about then whether or not the word "marriage" can be applied to same sex couples or not..after all without these vets fighting for us and our freedom, these choices would not be ours to make....

wow thanks...david's uncle was a paratrooper in WWII so how appropriate..the one who wasn't killed after Pearl Harbor, obviously lol..

Thanks for starting this thread, people talk about the main wars but often forget about the conflicts going on over the years all the time, in one of the services over the weekend in the uk,it was mentioned that we had troops involved in about sixty areas over the last ninety years, many times the USA has been with us. I always leave a poppy sticker in the car all year round to remind people not to forget the vets many of whom still suffer all the time.God bless all those involved most families including mine have been involved somwhere over the years. thanks for this thread kind regards meteor.

Well, even though my dad was busy with work all (yester-?) day, I made sure to give him a call. He served in the army during vietnam. He has some great stories, both awful and funny.

Two of my great uncles served in WW2, one came back (though he did die about 6 months ago), the other fell on a pike when he jumped. It was a great shame because he was the one who got all the good looks out of the brothers.

My prayers go out to all of the veterans and members of the armed services.
