In reality, she is actually not Indian. She was born in Bahrain to a Sri Lankan Burgher father (Burgers are not natives. They are descendant from European invaders who came to the country around the 15th century) and a mother of Malaysian descent. She only came to Sri Lanka and stayed long enough to qualify to compete in Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe pageant. She won that and went on to the main pageant, and her looks got her into Indian cinema. She hasn't really looked back at Sri Lanka ever since. That was in 2006. The girl who became runner-up in the local pageant in 2005 was again runner-up in 2006, and she was crying all throughout the crowing bit cause she couldn't believe she lost for a second time in a row, and this time to a person who came to the county just to compete. Jacqueline's primary footprint in Sri Lanka is a restaurant she opened in 2014. She can't actually speak either of the two state languages of Sri Lanka and her English is not accompanied with an Indian ascent. She is indeed a child of the universe.
