I'm pretty sure there are one or two Jethro Tull fans here who remember their classic 1972 album "Thick as a Brick". This record had just one long track with different parts that fill 40 minutes. Well, singer Ian Anderson is about to release "Thick as a Brick 2".

Any thoughts or comments?

Here's a trailer:

Those YouTube things don't work on dial up to well, but I do know they just had a 40th Anniversary Edition of Aqualung that was released last year, including alternative versions of songs, plus a few unreleased bits from back in the day. Whatever this trailer says, I dunno, but there is a lot of rehash going on these days from the golden years. Aqualung and Thick As A Brick was the bands high watermark in the mainstream before settling down to enthusiasts.
Like with the Beatles after all these years, George, during the last decade of his life, had no desire for any kind of comeback, content with working on his garden, and recording the occasional album just for fun. Ringo still does the occasional All Starr Band tours, but Paul seems to be the only one who's been so aggressive with his "Hey everybody, look at me, look at me, I'm a Beatle!" Relying more on his Beatle solo tunes once again, like he does on a semi regular basis. "Hey everybody, remember Let It Be? Yesterday? Hey Jude? That was Me! That was Me!" But Paul's egomania is what helped break the Beatles up in the first place.
True, Ian Anderson and friends haven't been doing this, but if they want to relive the golden years in reflection of a good life gone by, when they use to be able to sell out stadiums, good for them. They've made some good music over the years.
Interested enough to buy it when it comes out? I dunno. I've seen Jethro Tull twice back in my youth, Tull was the last rock concert I attended back in '75, before settling in exclusively with jazz, classical and world music. I remember those days fondly, but enough change has happened over the years, I don't know. The high point of my youth was seeing John Lennon in December of '71, but he's been gone some 30 plus years now.
I'm glad Ian and friends are happy, healthy, still together. I had their first 7 albums back then, and their music was very much in my life back then, as were others, but like they say, one can't go back. Or as a friend of mine would say, I wouldn't be 20 again if you gave me a full head of hair.

I'm REALLY conflicted about this.

I'll admit I am not a Jethro Tull fan but paradoxically Thick As a Brick is one of my favorite albums of all time! And the last time one of my favorite albums of all time got a sequel, *Coughs Operation: Mindcrime *Coughs* It turned into one of the single worst atrocities to music that I know of.

Still I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens...

Never liked Tull, which for me is a little odd, since I like most all of the old classic rock. Most of the band was okay, I just never liked Anderson, especially the way he'd stand on one foot while playing his flute. That seemed just a little too contrived to me. Didn't like his voice either.

Ian Anderson kyped - I mean adapted the flute thingie from Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Not that he didn't do some pretty interesting things with it (his versions of Bach's "Bouree" playing in my head as I write this). He had his moments, and I got the original issue of TAAB ,with the "newspaper" sleeve, as soon as it came out (a local chain store had it on sale). It got heavy rotation on my home-brew stereo system!

Having watched the trailer, I could not ignore small traces of the foul smell of sequelitis.

Really don't mind if I sit this one out.

As a long-standing fan of Tull and Ian Anderson, I just don't know...if nothing else I may pick it up for curiosity's sake. That said, it can be sad watching people who once enjoyed world wide fame attempting to recapture the past. I do wish them well though.

As for myself, I played the original "Thick" to death in high school(had it on 8-track, bad purchase for a 40 minute song, 4 interuptions!), really enjoyed it as a concept album.

Would definetly like to at least hear "Thick 2". But I always wonder about a band that rehashes past glories. I hope it'll be great. But two more examples of unecessary sequels:

Meat Loaf- "Bat Out of Hell 2"
Alice Cooper- "Welcome to My Nightmare 2"

8-track players. Ugh, I hated them.

Preach it Drew. I'd say the same about remakes of classic films. Some things are best left alone.

Sign me up for a listen.....I will reserve judgement

Out of curiosity, I did check out Aqualung from the library. Took me back to my days as a teenager, but still, it's hard to relate to some of this stuff now. (I don't think it's going to get a second playing here, back to the library it goes tomorrow.) I do remember TAAB got more play back then, but now, I'd have to agree with Kopfhorer.

I totally get what you're saying. Not to stray from my own thread, but perfect example: I've heard the new Van Halen cd, really enjoyed it cause it's more like VH1 and 2. But I liked those records back in high school, and would never buy the new one. Hard to get back into that stuff now when I'm totally into Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt, etc.
