JoCat's "Welcome to a Crap Guide to 5th Ed D&D"!

Lol that was funny :blaugh:

3.5 till the death of me 😎

My heart will forever belong to 1st edition. But I think 5E is pretty good, much better than 4 and equal to 3.5, maybe superior in some ways.

The one thing it seems to do better than any previous generation is put the emphasis on storytelling. I can't recall ever seeing that aspect made into the central focus of the entire experience before this.

The Dungeon Master's Guide in 5E is about 50% rulebook and 50% how-to-write-and-tell-a-story, which I think was an ingenious refocusing of priorities.

Have you tried Pathfinder RPG by Paizo Publishing?

I got the book but I never had the opportunity. All my friends still play "vanilla" 3.5 with me, when we do play D&D, which is a rarer occurrence than Vampire, Shadowrun or Qin 😀

All RPGs should put the narrative first and foremost, period. So I agree it's a good thing. However, it's kind of always been D&D's "thing" to put a great emphasis on strict and plentiful rules, a trace of its wargaming DNA, no doubt. And I really like the 2000 attempt at a "universal" system.

Not saying I don't like 5th ed. Just that we're still having too much fun with 3.5 ^_^

Now this might sound rather odd.
But sometimes the best in the squad.
Is the one with the cross.
Who can smite like a boss!
While harnessing the bitch slap of GOD!
With a mace that even ogres will flee!
You'll cast spells and crush foes with GLEE!
Some people think their not strong and those people are WRONG!
Welcome to a crap guide to D&D! #^_~#
.
..
...and now you know how to play Cleric. AMEN! 😀

But seriously, while 3.5 Edition is cool, 5th Edition kinda takes what 3.5 did, Pathfinder improved upon, and 4th Edition tried to do (and failed miserably) and basically comes out running like a smooth sailing ship. 😉

I haven't tried 2nd Edition Pathfinder yet though it looks disturbingly like 4th Edition from a glance over so I'm kind of wary about that. I'll have to try a more detailed overview through it and eventually give it a go before I can make a final decision.

I do like how the kobolds look like little multi-colored shark goblins though. 😉 😀
