I'm just mad. Grrrr

If I run across one more "grown man" (over 21) who still lives at home with his parents but insists on telling me "how things are" in life. *Insert you favorite topic - religion and how it applies to 'life', bills, phone service, the Libertarian party, cars and who should own them, habits-good or bad, grrrrrrrrr....you name it.....I WILL GO POSTAL!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing that spurs this rant?

I was visitng a friend of mine today. She is 40 years old. She is a gainfully employed divorced woman who takes care of herself and her responsibilites. She works and has an active social life. She also has a 21 year old son who thinks that his age makes him a man. HELLO? WHAT? Since when is living under a free roof and eating free food, talking on a free phone, and not taking care of himself, much less another human being define someone as being a MAN?

This overgrown toddler is a part time college student with a part time job. Too damn bad his full time mouth and big time attitude don't show a little respect for the people who are real ADULTS...you know...the ones working and paying the bills. The ones volunteering their spare time at shelters, or doing that little extra bit of housework that might make the providers day a little better. He spends his spare time playing a freakin' X-box or playsttion or whatever the hell those things are called and talking on the phone. YUP, he's grown up...as grown as he'll ever be.

Ok, so I feel better. Except....I'm also sick to absolute death of these same kids telling me that "age is just a number." Yeah, sure...if you live in a plastic bubble! Time means experience....experience is what counts. Granted some people have more experience than others their age, but let's be honest....if you're over 30 you can pretty safely say that time matters...it really does.

OK...now I really feel better.

I don't blame you for being mad, Joby. 😡 That woman's son, and other young people like him, are hypocrites if they say age doesn't matter or tell others how to live their lives. If they knew what the "real world" is like, they wouldn't be so cocky. Unfortunately, too many young "adults" take things for granted today. 🙁 Thanks for the rant! It's good to get things out of your system periodically. 🙂

P.S. I'm only 26, but I don't play video games and I mind my own business, so I guess I'm OK. 😀 😛

Some have it easy, some don't. Just because he is living at home does not change the fact that he is probably headstrong. Im sick of the whole..."if you play games and talk on the phone alot, your not grown up!" idea. It is quite simply the most ignorant thing to assume I have ever heard of. Just because someone does not work every second of every single day to get what they want, doesn not give you the right to insult the man (of course, I don't know the details, I am just going off of what you wrote...so forgive me if I am wrong). That is another thing...if your over 18, your a man. No matter what. Just My opinion...besides..."Experience should fear the strength of Youth" is one of my favorite quotes....

I realize sometimes it's needed, but living at home at age 21 is pretty pathetic to me. I moved out of my parents house whn I was 17.
I could not imagine having to live with my parents now!!!

As far as what this guy said...
He was just rude to his mother. REPEATEDLY. He treated her like she was hired help. He asked her for gas money because he spent his paycheck on a video game and going out with his girlfriend! Damn....his mom bought him the car a few years back! I'm surprised he wasn't asking her to pay his insurance! It was that, "It's all about me" attitude that really cranked me up! (thanks for asking...lol)

Until he can pay his own way in life and stop mooching off of his mom, he needs to remember he's not an adult. He's just a large child.

I agree with Krokus... but I'd add a little bit, and say: "If you're over 18, you're a man... and should damn well ACT like one."

What you described, Jobelle, sounds like your friend has a 5 star sissy of a son in the making. You think he's a pain in the ass now, just wait 'till HE'S 30. I'm sure you won't want him telling you "how it is" then, either. Someone like that, well, life isn't going to change them one bit. These are the people who kick their own ass repeatedly, and then repeatedly blame others for their own mistakes. Sadly, you can't outgrow stupidity, irresponsibility, or whinyness. 😛

My condolences to your friend. Your "motherhood" post in the "Guilt and Evil" thread notwithstanding, this kid is one reason why it's a shame that humans seldom eat their young. Sounds like he needs to have his butt kicked up between his shoulderblades. Or better still, come home some night to find the locks re-keyed and all of his shit piled out on the curb.

Just because one dumbfuck got you pissed off don't think that everyone that age is like that. I am 21 and I still live with my parents, because I don't trust any of my friends to live with them, because I dont want them flaking out on the bills. So that is why I am living with my folks still. But...but...yes there is a but, I pay for all my expensives, The only think my parents did for me was be a co-signer when I pulled a loan out for a truck. But I am paying back the loan on my own and I pay the insurance. I pay for all my stuff. My phone, my cell phone and all my litle extra things. So there are still some good kids out. The only thing they pay for is food and college for me. but I go to a cheap J.C. but the told me as long as I go then they will pay for me. But i treat them good and I respect them. So dont judge us 'kids' on one person cause there are some good one left.
