I've overcome my crippling lifelong phobia of driving today, and I got my liscence. May seem small too many of you. I happen to suffer from post truamatic stress disorder and it's huge progress for me.
Just wanted to share this with all of you.

That's not small at all, Phil--in fact, it's a big step forward! Congrats, and have fun driving. 😀

Way to go Phil! Congrats. Nothing that is in need to be overcome is too small.
I can only imagine what caused that trauma to fear driving.
I am sure it was a very big accomplishment for you.

Well done, Phil. I know from personal experience how difficult it can be to overcome PTSD. Every step is a big one and you are to be congratulated.

congratulations, life is improved with the use of a car. It beats having to borrow your little sister's bike with the basket and streamers 😛

Phil, I can understand completely. I only got my license a few months ago. I also had a phobia of driving and it took a long time for me to get through it. I'm fine now, and I'm sure you will be too. Congratulations!

....and those bothersome training wheels make it impossible to jump curbs 😱 .
Thanks to everyone for the congrats.
BTW:Biggles-That's an awsome quote, where'd you find it, is it original?

Congratulations Phil!

Everyone has deamons, but not everyone has the courage to face up to them and slay 'em!

Hey that is great!

You took the first step! You went through with it, and hey guess what? 🙂 Now you have a drivers license! Congratulations 46and2! I wish that I could over come my fears!
🙁 One day.........

Hey, have some faith in yourself, you can too overcome your fears. It's a matter of time, patience, and faith. I told myself that everyday I would do something that I normally was afraid of(understand I have a number of irrational fears). So far it's been working out great and I'm slowly but surley coming out of the bubble that gave me that false sense of security (I know I sound like a freakin self help Guru!) and I've never felt so good about myself. I'm just saying don't give up! If you want it, you'll get it!
Take care.

thanks. You mean my sig quote right? It's from Fight Club, specifically the Dust Brothers song "This is Your Life."

One of the main characters, Tyler Durden, does these amazing anti-everything rants, and I thought that section was particularly good.

I have overcome one of my biggest fears a few years ago when, on my 27th birthday, my best friend took my sky-diving. I was really freaked out at first. The thought of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, to me, was absolutely insane.

But as we were falling to the earth, I was loving every second of it. Can't wait to do it again.

hey guys

ticklmaster, the second jump is harder! you get up there, and you know what's comming! at least with the first time, you didn't know what you were affraid of, lol!!!
phil, what do you have "post traumatic stress" from? i knew a couple guys who had it, but it was from the military/combat. is yours from the same thing?

Congratulations 46and2!

That was a huge accomplishment. It proves you are making progress. I salute your bravery and courage to take those steps forward to deal with some of the issues that have been plaguing you for such a long time.

I'm proud of you!

Jan

Congratulations!

Congratulations, 46&2 on conquering your fear of driving.😎

I've never been able 2 drive. Not that I'm afraid of it, I'm just not any good at it--visually impaired most of my life. Taken the Texas State Driver's test 3 times, & still haven't passed it yet. (The 3rd failure wasn't my fault, I promise...little girl hit me w/her car while I was trying 2 parallel park.)

Got a new optometrist & some new glasses. Doc's OK'ed me for attempt #4, but followed it up w/"don't feel 2 bad if..." I'll let you guys know when I'll B getting back behind the wheel again--so U have a sporting chance...😱

Good thing I live in such a large state. I'm gonna need the room. 🙂

Don't drive 2 far away...I'll catch up.🙂

good for you, 46and2!!!

I didn’t start driving (for the same reasons) until I was 27. when I couldn’t get my son to a Birthday party I decided, “that’s it!”, and started really trying. it was the first step among many that I have taken in the past few years. once you realize, ‘if that guy over there (pick anyone doing what you want to do) can do it... then so can I!’, you can do anything.

congratulations!

There are a few things I could have gotten it from. But the general consensus is that I got it from being in a car accident.
