For those of you who are still fans of the Kabuki-style metal gods, there's a new live album that kicks major ass. The first six tunes are just live versions of KISS standards, but Act II and III feature the band performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. I figured that would work with the slow stuff, like "Beth" and the fantastic version of "Forever", but it really kicks ass on the heavy shit! "Detroit Rock City" with a full orchestra is something that really needs to be heard. What's really neat are the liner pics of the show, featuring the MSO in full KISS make-up along with the band...even the Conductor in Gene Simmons garb. The DVD comes out in September, so it should be even more interesting to see.

Give this disc a shot, it's pretty freakin' cool. 😎

I feel so old, Dave... I saw Kiss at the Garden, December 15, 1977, and had seats in the greens. We could feel the heat from the giant flame projectors on the stage...real showmanship in the days pre-MTV.
I was never a big Kiss fan, my sister was, and at twelve, she was in her glory that night. We sat behind young boys not much older than she, and they bubbled with awe all night over (refresh my memory-Peter Criss?) what looked like a 157 piece drum set and the makeup and everything else. All so that I could tell all these young people about it today.
Warm up band was a group out of Boston with some terrible sound equipment that gave you a tremendous headache even before the main event. The band was called 'Piper', and featured a young lead vocalist named Billy Squier.
Those were the days.

Kiss now that brings back some memories.Floating drum sets,Simmons blowing fire into the sky. They were my first real big name concert to see I was just amazed at the sound systems the pyro and all the bells and whistles. But,I think the best part was all the women.I was a young man and had never seen that many women in one place,I was so happy.Suprised can remember anything from all the pot we smoked, lol.Ah the good old days thanks for the reminder Dave.
