KISS plans new album

Posted Fri Dec 12, 2008 9:00am AEDT

KISS has reversed course and decided to hit the studio next year to record its first new album since 1998's Psycho Circus.

"It's going to be very much a vintage, classic, 70s KISS album without much regard to what's happened since then. It's back to the roots," said singer and guitarist Paul Stanley, who will produce the album.

He told askmen.com in a recent interview that the band planned to hit the studio shortly.

In recent years, bassist Gene Simmons has been vocal about his lack of enthusiasm about making a new album, which he attributes to the state of the business.

"The record industry is in such a mess," he told Billboard last year.

"There is nothing in me that wants to go in there and do new music. How are you going to deliver it? How are you going to get paid for it if people can just get it for free?"

It is unknown how KISS will distribute the album, which will feature original members Stanley and Simmons alongside guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer.

I'm thinking that record companies the way we once knew them are probably on their way out. Studio recordings are mainly going to be promotional vehicles.

As for Kiss, well, if the Sex Pistols could go on tour a few years ago...

Yeah well the Kiss comeback i don't really care, although i once listended and buy actually one of their albums, back in 1992, it was pretty decent in fact.

Now saying that everyone can download an album for free is a lame excuse. Firstly, there were always be thousands even millions of people, fans of the band to buy the cd, cos it will be the first to be released, unless proven.

Secondly if you know that everytime one song of whatever band on earth is played, they have money for it. How much a day a kiss song is played in the whole world ? Many times, so he shall not complain too much.

the title of the album was "revenge" by the way 🙂

the hollywood brother say it been too long isnce kiss hit the road and put out another kiss rock and roll album. the bottom line is that the world can use a good hard rock heavy metal album that is awesome and sounds like sometihng from kiss heyday. the hollywood brother isn ot a huge kiss fan but likes there music and is looking forward to see what the boysi n the band can produce in this day and age

it is hard to fathom that with a army almost as strong as the almighty hollywood brother army that the kiss fans of the world would not unite on tickle theatre and keep this thread going. the hollywood brother got to give kiss there props for being the only band to put there trademark on more products than krusty the clown does on the simpsons

I want to rock and roll. All night. And party, every day.

The music and recording industry need to get their heads out of their asses and realize that technology has caught up with them. I totally support the idea of copyright and people controlling their creations. However, you can not copyright the laws of physics. All they do is manipulate sound waves that's it. Those sound waves can be copied. I'm sorry if they feel that they're being screwed. They need to re-invent their business and start making money again. Which is easily done. It's called promotion and advertising. They're all just fat and lazy is all.

As for KISS I would love to see them get back in the studio. They were a damn good band back in their day.

The problem is that you have these people who whine. Instead of just living with the reality that this is now, not 1978, they QQ about how people can copy things. If KISS is so worried that they won't get richer, they need to do the right thing. Fire their record company and release independently.

Then, sue their record label for misrepresentation, attempt to defraud, and racketeering.

I don't know why musicians buy into "The Industry". It's foolish. The whole game is set up for fat old white men to get richer than Avarice. It should be set up for them to stay in their place. Pushing papers making ME, a musician, rich. THAT is where record company CEOs belong. IN THE OFFICE. If they're on private jets or playing golf, then under God, maybe they need their asses in court for not doing their jobs.

Musicians need to send a clear message... it's time for the shenanigans to be over. No more of this "Hi, here's a loan to make a record. Pay it back out of sales." It needs to be "Hi, here's free money to make a record." Why? The company will make back many times what they loan out. That money is paltry compared to what they stand to gain.

I don't want it to be that way. If it works the way I say, then the people who make the music will be paid to make more on their own and then they can sue their former labels into non-existance. THAT way, the labels will be gone and everybody starts on a level playing field. No more "getting discovered" crap. No more $20,000 an hour studios. No. Then everybody actually has to be judged on the merits of the quality of their music.

I dare say that if this were to happen, the Spearses and Aguileras and Simpsons will be living in boxes by the end of the week.

Oh yeah, and no more celebs putting out shitty CDs.

KISS Solo Albums

While KISS has not released a new album in a decade now; the KISS members have released solo albums in those years.

Gene Simmons released Asshole in 2004.

Paul Stanley released Live to Win in 2006.

Peter Criss released One For All in 2007.

Have any of you listened to these albums? What did you think?

Gene Simmons is a disgusting, money-drunk asshole who'd sell his mother's ashes for a dollar. Or $75,000, inside a KISS urn.

They've had their place in history and gotten rich off it. It's 30 years later and people are still singing their first couple album's stuff. Ride the wave, continue being looked back at with admiration, and don't disappoint all your true fans by squeezing back into the pleather pantsuit begging for relevance in a market you no longer really fit in. You're going to look silly and today's mediums have no problem broadcasting your failures. Like it or not, the Jonas Brothers would kick your ass in ticket sales and promotions today.

The record company CEO's were and are the biggest thieves of intellectual property bar none. I cannot believe the brass they've shown by their whinings about "piracy". The FBI is protecting these people? Hey, if the government can bail out Wall Street...

They've screwed artists. They've gouged consumers. They've routinely raised record prices every couple of years. If they could have thought up more lame excuses for doing so, they'd have done it even more often. They sold product with zero quality control. (I have a record which proved unplayable right out of the shrink wrap.) They did it all because they could. And then along came Napster, Limewire, Kazaa, etc., ad infinitum. The reason we're not paying US$50.00 for new CD's is because ripping technologies and file-sharing services have finally given previously-helpless consumers a way to push back.

BTW, where can I find one of those KISS funerary urns? 🙂

Probably the same place you can get one of these...

I think what Gene meant to say was he is having too much fun living the millionaire rock star lifestyle to have to go into a studio and actually do some work or write some good new tunes...which is fine, but just be honest about it.
