In the 1970s, I wrote an amateur screenplay called "Kount Kongo", a satirical take on "King Kong", one of my all-time favorite films. Recently, I've prepared illustrations to accompany the script and, with Peter Jackson's big budget remake only weeks away, this seemed like a sound time to share them. Three pictures are completed and I'll add the final two sometime next week, making a tidy five in all:

Don't leap too far, Kal! You'll wind up plummiting down a Skull Island crevasse! Thanks for such a quick reply! You looking forward to the new film?

No risk of over-bounding.
Check my newest pic and you'll see my current avatar prevents me from pulling off that kind of stunts.

...

About King Kong... nope.
I don't like cinema too much.

...

I mean... I can cope with the movies.
It is the *humans*!
It's full of creepy humans!

...

I am developing a theory on remakes, though.

Your picture in Nessie's thread? It's canny caricature-work, and very funny! Glad I got a chance to say so here on neutral ground, as I've been tripping on egg-shells not make a "political" statement during this latest wrangle, as I'm still very fond of all the combatants (and in this atmosphere, to comment on any art offering is tantamount to taking sides... it's robbed me of the chance to praise some very fine work). Cowardly, I know, but that's my religion... I'm a devout coward.

Do you mean the humans onscreen or the people in the theater seats? I have trouble with the latter, but I'm willing to brave them for this particular film. Jackson has won my allegiance three times with the LOTR films (and he had to do it from the ground up each time). I'm now his to lose, but I doubt this movie will be the one.

Will be most intrigued to hear your views on remakes. I have my own... generally, I'm ag'in em unless there's some darned good need.

As usual your color work is awesome. It definately has "you" written all over it. ^^

Thanks so much, nessie! Your latest Sakura is a beauty, by the way! Do you continue to improve with every picture, or am I just partial? 😉

I get plenty of practice with my illustrations, though my style hasn't really changed in 20 years. I do two new ones every week, sending them out with my old serialized amateur screenplays (which are awful, but good for laughs). One way to keep distant friendships alive.

awww thanks! =^_^= I go through periods where I seem to overcome some plataue and make a little leap in quality. I am sometimes surprised when I look through my pics and see how little I actually draw. Maybe if I did more I'd be improving faster and could eventually get to where Im good enough even for myself. XD

I do love your style. It reminds me so much of like 1950's B movie posters. So very cool ^^

That's a wonderful compliment, ness! I spent a portion of my early life in that era, and those movie posters are very dear to me! I own a few originals, if fact... they were really easy to find and very affordable back in the '70s.

you're welcome ^^ I'm so sorry I don't have the talent with words that you do and I cant produce the kind of excellent feedback you always give me. =^_^=

First, thank you! Second, don't underrate yourself! You have a clean, spontaneous, converstational way of expressing yourself that's personal and very endearing. You don't need my sort convoluted verbiage to convince... people know you speak from your heart.

awww thanks LBH =^_^=
I sometimes wish my heart had a more diverse vocabulary. ^^

Wish my colon could properly hyphenate.

...

😉

Good.

I'm not ticking you, though. You fight back.

Well, it was really for you own safety.
I mean... there is little sense in poking an empty cuirass...

😉

...

I mean... it would be... "pointless poking".

Butthead: ...huh,huh,huh... he said cuirass...

PS: Hey, didn't see the new picture! I think we side-swiped each other. Man, Kal, you've been productive lately!

I like this Kal persona! He's pleasantly cartoony, yet still quite ominous. Well protected, too!

This is a great parody. The texture of the coloring is in good taste. Good job. 🙂

Thanks a lot, Vlad! I wish the screenplay had been worth a darn, but it did at least give me an excuse for a few new pictures. The final two illustrations will be a bit more satirical in tone... it'll be interesting to see if they form a pleasing whole!

How about you? Is this big budget "Kong" remake something you're looking forward to?

The CG looks really good, but King Kong is never something I was into. I liked Godzilla more than King Kong.

If they were to make a newer version of the Godzilla/Kong fight with this new King Kong and the new Godzilla from the american version I'd pay to watch that. But King Kong alone, I'm not so sure.

This used to be my first avatar as Kalamos.
A robed skeleton was my second web persona, but I didn't like it too much.
It stemmed from a wacky story from an equally wacky user [ 😉 ] where goons from Saudelli had me executed for smuggling fake Blonde art.
I eventually ditched the char, and resumed using the helm as my avatar because the undead joke was getting... stale.

...

Guess this full figure empty suit of armour merges both.

...

I should comment on your pics.
I'll tell you what: I finally got to read a Crumb comic, featuring the Snoid.

🙂

The new film looks like it'ill be first rate, but I must admit I wouldn't mind another Kong/Godzilla dust-up myself, Vlad. It would have to be done fully CGI, though. Both the US and the Japanesse have proved they can't handle the Kong character with suits. CGI, though... that would be monumental! Not a building left up-right!

Your skeleton alter-ego has an amazingly involved background, Kal! I don't remember ever seeing him; I'll have to check the gallery again. And I'm somewhat shame-faced to own that I'm not familiar with the Snoid (Fritz and Mr. Natural are more my speed... that is to say, I've really only ever gotten my ankles wet). I've now seen him on a few sites, though I'm not entirely sure if this image represents an individual or a type of person. The skimpy explanatory text was not clear. A subject for further study. Ever heard any of Crumb's music, by the way (he and his Cheap Suit Serenaders)? It's definitely worth a listen!
