Last Howard Johnson's restaurant for sale.

If you traveled the Kansas Turnpike (I-35) in the 60's and 70's that familiar orange roof signaled a chance to grab a bite to eat, stretch your legs and fuel up the car. We were frequent visitors on family vacations or trips to Wichita to visit an aunt and uncle who lived there. I hope somebody bought the place and reopened it. It would be sad to see another American icon fade into the history books.

Bummer. HoJo was always a stop on any road trip.

Sad to see another icon going away. It used to be on any service plaza on any turnpike here in the U.S.,they had a nice sit down restaurant. Now,it is all fast food.

For years Howard Johnson's had an elusive franchise on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but then they got greedy and didn't update their restaurants and were replaced by other restaurants.

The last HoJo here in this area went out about 25 years ago. Food was decent I suppose, but if memory serves, it had slid, service-wise. It's now a gas station/convenience store.

Years ago a guy said they served exactly 16 peas to a plate of food.
