i heard that fox just got a contract to do live action dbz movies. being a dbz fan and all i am excited but also concerned. see, i want to see a live action dbz movie but i'm afraid it will really suck. it should be loyal to the fans but easy enough for new comers to understand. but seeing wat their doing wit those x-men movies and that mtv movie "Volcano High" has boosted my hopes. as long as they get the rite cast and stay true to the story, they could probably pull it off.

P.S. i have also gotten wind that there will be a live action metroid movie but i dont kno who is gonna run the show yet though. i'll be sure to keep all u fans posted.

Yep, there is a live action DBZ movie coming, and yep, HDS has his doubts about it. Live-action anime has a stormy track record. I'll wait before giving judgement.

There is definately potential. 10 or even 5 years ago there would have been no hope. But now the technology is there to make a really kick ass film worthy of DBZ. But Fox? I dont follow movies much but has Fox done anything really high tech and effects driven?
As a low-level DBZ fan I'm also excited that they MIGHT make something live-action that would be cool. But there is definately a large chance that it will just suck.
This seems to happen whenever they make a comic book or cartoon into live action. If they rely soley on the effect and the brand name it generally sells a few happy meal toys and dies quickly. I hope they spend some time developing something that's a good movie as well.

KA-ME-HA-me....wait, wait...my special effects flashlight broke. Can we do the scene again?

Heh, I enjoy DBZ from time to time myself but it's hard picturing a good Fox produced movie about it portrayed by real people. They'd be better off making another (english-based) DBZ movie similar to Cowboy Bebop or something like that.

you can't take anime and put it to live action.... it's anime, it,s made to be surreal, and who is gonna play goku? Tom Cruise ? come, i think the movie will suck. i hope this statement will come bite me back in the ass but i doubt it will.

My only thing is I hope they speed the damn story up!!! How long did that fight with Freeza go? 2 months? And it was suppossed to have taken only 10 minutes!!! That was my only complaint about DBZ: Get on with it allready!!

I'm with you there, MayDay. It's irritating when an episode is billed as "The Final Fight (finally)" and all it is is a bunch of chatter and maybe at the very end they hint at fighting in the next episode.
What's really irritating is when they're finally going to get down and fight with the bad guys and then at the last minute the bad guy decides to put on some sort of tournament or something or throws a series of weak henchmen at them to waste time.
DBZ has great action when it's there but they take so freakin long to get to it! I could forgive this if it were to advance some sort of in depth story line or character development but it's mostly just filler.

Right. Such as Piccalo taking 3 episodes to charge up some attack that's just going to miss anyway, then another 3 episodes with characters in shock an disbelief because this super attack didn't work. Aqua Teen Hunger Force does more in 15 minutes than DBZ does in a month.

oh please!the dialogue from the American translated Dragon ball z anime was bad enough. Now they're going to cheese it down even more by making a big budget hollywood film. why i ask! do they need to milk the series even more. It should end with the translated gt series dvds and thats it. Oh now wait!theres a huge market for comic book style films cause spiderman and xmen did well. They should take the script and use it for toilet paper.

goku-jackie chan

vegeta-jet-li

thats what i heard about the rumored actors playing these parts.

Im with HDS on this 1

I'll wait before giving judgement.

I don't know what to say. I love DBZ, but who can they get to star in it? Plus, it's Fox. I don't trust Fox to make a good movie, especially an anime movie, and especially a DBZ movie. And would the movie be the entire series? I have no clue. To be honest, I can't picture a good movie being made from DBZ. It would be cool however, if they made a very long DBZ cartoon film.

Ah yes the live action movies, said to be made with the same type of graphics you find in your every day star wars episode (# here) movie. I hear the rock is to play Cell or Buu, i forget.

more info

well i just got more info. i heard that goerge lucas and his CGI company- ILM was to do the graphics. they r shooting towards 4 movies for each of the sagas(saiyan, freiza, android and cell, and buu). they r gonna be PG-13 and r going to be around 3-4 hours in length(i think). it could just be called "DragonBallZ" but i heard it could also be "DragonBallZ Unlimited" or "DragonBallZ:fight for mankind",not sure yet though. it was supposed to be filmed a while ago but they sed they were actuallly starting to film when it was supposed to be released(Summer 2004) so im guessing it will be out by the middle of 2005. here is wat i heard the cast was going to be but it may change though:

Goku- Hugh Jackman

Vegeta: Ray Park ( Sleepy Hollow, Star Wars Episode 1, X-men)

Piccolo: Sam Wheeler

Raditz: Jason Bateman (Teen Wolf Two, Necessary Roughness, The Sweetest Thing)

Nappa: Bill Goldberg ( WWE wrestling, Universal Soldier: The Return)

Tien: Orlando Bloom ( Black Hawk Down, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean

Bulma: Jessica Alba ( P.U.N.K.S, Idle Hands, Dark Angel)

Puar, Oolong, King Kai- Characters will be CGI and the voice actors from the show will be doing these voices.

hopefully this movie wont suck! 😀

Well, I can easily see Goldberg as Tien. ROFL!!!

Although with Orlando Bloom.....methinks the fangirls will be 'a swarmin'. 😛

i went and looked for some info about this and i found the listing for the movie to be

Bardock-Robin Shou
King Vegeta-Jackie Chan
Goku-Hugh Jackman (Reinstated)
Vegeta-Jet Li
Trunks-Leonardo DiCaprio
Gohan-Ben Afflack
Piccolo-Wesley Snipes
Yamcha-Brendan Fraiser
Tein-Orlando Broom
Krillin-Danny DeVito

Nappa-Bill Goldberg
Freiza-Vin Deisel
Cell-The Rock
Hercule-Hulk Hogan
Supreme Kai-Tom Cruise
Kibito-Undertaker
Magin Buu-Brock Lesnar

jesus christ-this movie is going to be way big budget. They have some of hollywoods best and best wrestlers in the wwe. But for some i just dont see how they can transform them into the anime characters. but knowing me, i'll probably go see it no matter how bad it is. Hoever, if its going to be good, then i will enjoy it.

lol, how they portray Buu will be interesting. 😛 DeVito as Krillin? Supreme Kai is Tom Cruise? HERCULE is HULK HOGAN!? I'm almost beginning to think this is a hoax.

Question to smaug: Where did you find the info about the cast? C'mon. This is not 'Titanic 2: Revenge'... It's only DBZ...

Yeah, if any of you really believe the list then I have a nice bridge for sale that you might be interested in. C'mon, this is Fox. Plus, you'd need to be Bill Gates to hire all that talent which Fox is not. 🙂

Are you sure it didnt say "which stars would you like to see portray your favorite dbz characters if they made a dragon ball z movie. According to dRagonballz.com, the film hasnt even been confirmed.

The Rock as Cell?! Could you picture that? - "The Cell is gonna raise the Perfect Eyebrow, He's gonna drop the Perfect Elbow, and another jabroni is gonna hit Cell Bottom!

the Internet Movie Database DOES currently have "Dragonball Z Unlimited" marked down as a film to b made, and it's been there a while, but for all this time i've seen no progress on it except the title.

PERSONALLY, if i were at the helm, i'd cast:
Goku: Jackie Chan
Vegeta: Hugh Jackman
Piccolo: Wesley Snipes
Yamcha: Robin Shou
Tien Shinhan: Ray Park
Master Roshi: Pat whatshisname from karate Kid
Kami: Liam Neeson

and that would b u'r basic cast of heros, folks! come on, for a two-hour movie, u think they're gonna add a cast of thousands? XD

FYI, there actually IS a live-action Dragonball film. It's a lowbudget Hong-Kong film available dubbed in the states as "Dragon Ball: The Saga Begins", and from what i've heard it's pretty awful, especially the dubbed version. The story line centers around the original Dragon Ball storyline, and the dragon balls themselves are the size of marbles and are called, completely ignoring the title, "Dragon Pearls". Plus, all the characters' names have been changed. Goku is now known as "Monkey Boy" and Master Roshi is sumthing like "Sparkle". Plus i've heard the special effects and costumes are laughable, almost Power Ranger-ish

like most people here, i think a live-action DBZ movie is a BAD idea. I'm actually a HUGE DB/Z/GT fan, but i can't see it in live-action form. First off, the characters' hair..............i don't think i need to say anything more about that XD. 2nd is delivery. unless this is a film aimed directly at fans, like Mortal Kombat or sumthing, if the moviemakers try to make it relatable to non-fans like X-Men did, non-fans are STILL gonna b going "what the hell's going on" and wondering thing like "what's with the hair?" and "how come everyone has asian names?" and "how come there are martial artists, aliens, Jetsons capsules, and dinosaurs all in the same movie?" XD

however, i am NOT saying that NO anime should b made into a live-action film. If u've got an anime with either english names or multicultural names or whimsical names (like in Star Wars or LotR), and the anime has a plot that can properly b told through one film, THEN u got a shot!

here's a list of animes i can picture being made into live-action Hollywood films:

Voltron: Defender of the Universe (a childhood favorite, i would LOVE to see this on the big screen! 😀 )
Lupin the Third (starring Jim Carrey! 😀 come on, folks! who's with me in saying that Lupin looks EXACTLY like Jim-bo? 😀 )
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop (IF the CB movie weren't already released here theatrically T_T)
Record of Lodoss War
Battle of the Planets (a.k.a G-Force, a.k.a. Gatchaman, a.k.a. Eagle Riders)
Sailor Moon (for the kiddies ^^)
Gundam (any series)
Big O
The Slayers
One Piece
Case Closed (a.k.a. Detective Conan)
Thundercats (ok, not an anime, but who wouldn't want to see it made? XD )

i also have heard that Hasbro is currently signing contracts to do a live-action Transformers movie. let's all hope they pull it off! 😀 (btw, this year is currently Transformers' 20th aniversery 😀 )
