the Internet Movie Database DOES currently have "Dragonball Z Unlimited" marked down as a film to b made, and it's been there a while, but for all this time i've seen no progress on it except the title.
PERSONALLY, if i were at the helm, i'd cast:
Goku: Jackie Chan
Vegeta: Hugh Jackman
Piccolo: Wesley Snipes
Yamcha: Robin Shou
Tien Shinhan: Ray Park
Master Roshi: Pat whatshisname from karate Kid
Kami: Liam Neeson
and that would b u'r basic cast of heros, folks! come on, for a two-hour movie, u think they're gonna add a cast of thousands? XD
FYI, there actually IS a live-action Dragonball film. It's a lowbudget Hong-Kong film available dubbed in the states as "Dragon Ball: The Saga Begins", and from what i've heard it's pretty awful, especially the dubbed version. The story line centers around the original Dragon Ball storyline, and the dragon balls themselves are the size of marbles and are called, completely ignoring the title, "Dragon Pearls". Plus, all the characters' names have been changed. Goku is now known as "Monkey Boy" and Master Roshi is sumthing like "Sparkle". Plus i've heard the special effects and costumes are laughable, almost Power Ranger-ish
like most people here, i think a live-action DBZ movie is a BAD idea. I'm actually a HUGE DB/Z/GT fan, but i can't see it in live-action form. First off, the characters' hair..............i don't think i need to say anything more about that XD. 2nd is delivery. unless this is a film aimed directly at fans, like Mortal Kombat or sumthing, if the moviemakers try to make it relatable to non-fans like X-Men did, non-fans are STILL gonna b going "what the hell's going on" and wondering thing like "what's with the hair?" and "how come everyone has asian names?" and "how come there are martial artists, aliens, Jetsons capsules, and dinosaurs all in the same movie?" XD
however, i am NOT saying that NO anime should b made into a live-action film. If u've got an anime with either english names or multicultural names or whimsical names (like in Star Wars or LotR), and the anime has a plot that can properly b told through one film, THEN u got a shot!
here's a list of animes i can picture being made into live-action Hollywood films:
Voltron: Defender of the Universe (a childhood favorite, i would LOVE to see this on the big screen! 😀 )
Lupin the Third (starring Jim Carrey! 😀 come on, folks! who's with me in saying that Lupin looks EXACTLY like Jim-bo? 😀 )
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop (IF the CB movie weren't already released here theatrically T_T)
Record of Lodoss War
Battle of the Planets (a.k.a G-Force, a.k.a. Gatchaman, a.k.a. Eagle Riders)
Sailor Moon (for the kiddies ^^)
Gundam (any series)
Big O
The Slayers
One Piece
Case Closed (a.k.a. Detective Conan)
Thundercats (ok, not an anime, but who wouldn't want to see it made? XD )
i also have heard that Hasbro is currently signing contracts to do a live-action Transformers movie. let's all hope they pull it off! 😀 (btw, this year is currently Transformers' 20th aniversery 😀 )
