I hope that the three governments of the UK, the USA, and Libya make good on their promise to investigate this act of terrorism once again. It is clear that the case has never been fully solved. The victims and their families are owed as much.
There is one thing about this affair that needs to be mentioned, and nobody has mentioned it so far.
One man was convicted for this Lockerbie bombing. His name was Abdelbeset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi. He was sentenced to life in prison.
He was released and allowed to go to Libya, where he was treated as a returning hero. That he was released is an everlasting shame to the Scottish government, not that they have expressed regret. The reason for his release was officially humanitarian, in that he was alleged to have terminal cancer. Nevertheless, the bastard motherfucker Abdelbeset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi lived for two and one half years as a free man, honored as a hero, in Libya after his release. May he roast in Hell forever! May the government officials in Scotland who released him join him in Hell as soon as possible.
PS: If my response requires that this thread be moved to the P&R Forum, then I apologize to Bugman for causing that.
There is much cynicism in the UK as to whether Megrahi was the person who carried out the bombing. Indeed, one of the fathers of the victims (Dr Jim Swire), met Megrahi in prison and stated his belief that he was not to blame for the attack. Whether the sole responsibility lies with Megrahi has always been a source of debate in the United Kingdom.
