Year before last my husband and I caught a cicada that was crawling up the big maple tree outside our house. We put it in a big glass jar and watched it as it molted, sprouted wings, and tripled in size. It was actually reallu awesome. We didnt know at the time what it was but we looked it up later and it turns out that they sleep underground for 17 YEARS before coming up, molting, mating, and dying in just a week or two. Pretty amazing stuff, I thought.
Damn they're noisy though. I can't imagine having as many as they say we're going to get. And we get a LOT here.
