Looking for a good video editing tool

I have some clips I'd like to post, but due to the large size of most of them, I can't. So I'm looking for a tool to edit videos with (wmv, rm, ram, etc.) so I can cut them into different parts and post them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard Windows Movie Maker is supposed to be pretty good for that. You just mean cut the clips into shorter sections, right?

Now that would work, but there's a problem. Whenever I try to save the file, it tells me that it will take about 10-15 minutes to finish. The thing is, this puts alot of strain on mmy pc for some reason, and if I let it go on for too long, my pc overheats and shuts down. What I need is a video editing tool that allows me to save split filesas smaller files at a faster pace, so then I can increase the quality manually. I'll look into it some more, but right now I'm at a dead end.

Virtualdub (free at http://www.virtualdub.org ) is supposed to be a pretty good editor for Windows Media formats, though I found it very complicated. There are currently no free programs that edit Real Media or Quick Time files because of patent and licensing concerns.
