I'd need to know abit more about your own movie-viewing habits and preferences before I could sensibly recommend anything to you. Name me some favorites and I might be able to come up with some knock-offs that aren't as good as the original, but have their charms.

Good enough! Try this little number on for size, then! It's a decent sci-fi/horror that will at times seem kinda comical by today's standards. Oh, and it's filled with a fair amount of action and thrills. Not batshit insane like Journia's Tetsuo recommendation, but a worthy sci-fi nightmare that touches on several themes that continue to be fleshed out in more recent movies.
