All that may be true, but none of this would have happened if every one abided by the rules. (McGwire, Sosa...)
That's exactly what my point was man. THERE WERE NO RULES TO THIS BEFORE 2003, and the current policy wasn't in until 2006. Instead of protecting the so-called 'integrity of the game' Selig, Fehr and other owners/higher ups in basebally just wanted to line their own pockets.
And while some steroids are illegal, there are steroids out there that have to be used for those recovering from surgery amongst other things.
I don't believe Barry tainted the sport, the sport had already been tainted beyond belief, especially for generations prior (Black Sox scandal in 1919?) And besides, if it's about the HR record, he won't hold it for too much longer if A-Rod keeps up at his pace right now. I don't think any record is tainted, because as I said there were no rules or regulation about this stuff until a few years ago. If Barry had tested positive under the new policy, I would say he tainted the game. And you can't take records away because of steroid use in 98 or 01 because there were no rules, it's like the NCAA taking away wins and accomplishments about 10 years after the fact like what they did with Michigan basketball from the 'Fab Five' years. It's all academic, we've seen the events, we can't just take an eraser to them.
Like here's an example. George Mason's final four run in 2006, what if it was discovered like in 2012 that some of the players recieved improper benefits from boosters? And this led to the NCAA basically erasing the 06 season and it's accomplishments from the books. Myself and plenty others would remember that they beat Michigan State, UNC, and UConn; myself and others would remember the controversy about letting them in the tournament to begin with. Myself and others will remember how we became everyones favorite team if only for a week with the media talking about us everyday. Myself and others would remember seeing them play on the biggest stage of college basketball and playing strong for a half before the eventual champs took over. You can't act like these events never happened if you erase them from record books. People will remember.
Sides, the real baseball story today is A-Rod basically giving a big middle finger to Scott Boras in going back and resigning an extension with the Yankees.
