Trained hawks employed to keep pigeons from making a mess on visitors in a midtown park have been grounded because one of the birds mistook a Chihuahua as its lunch. An 18-inch hawk swooped down and gouged the diminutive pooch with one of its talons while the dog was nosing around in the bushes of Bryant Park, located behind the landmark New York Public Library. To me, anything less than 50 LBS qualifies as a large housecat, if they had had a big dog that wouldnt have happened

Before someone throws a lightning bolt at me let me rush to say that I love animals. Damn near all animals. True, small yappy dogs are not high on my list...

Anyway I wonder if that hawk wasn't tired of the same ol' board of fair. Maybe he thought he was picking up a chalupa from Taco Bell.

I walk by Bryant Park quite often, L.O. I never noticed the hawks there before, and now it's too late.

But we should actually be grateful that the mess is only made by pigeons. Imagine the mess if cows could fly... 😛

I guess the hawk mistook him for a taco.That will teach the pooch.I do hope the pooch is ok though.I guess the hawk didn't recognize him as a celebrity
